"Strange happenings" while railfanning?
I spend alot of time searching through the BFRO (Bigfoot field researchers organization) and came across several railroad/bigfoot encounters (mainly Union Pacific) . Weird stuff has happened to me out there chasing trains and I was just wondering, if any of you had an interesting story that happened regarding an animal, police, drunks, criminals, ticked off property owners etc. when you were out chasing. I thought that might be kind of interesting. Maybe a mistake you made could prevent something from happening to us.......................

I stayed at the Rio in Las Vegas a few years ago and goes right next to the Union Pacific Cima Sub. I could see tresspassers walking on the tracks and almost getting hit by an eastbound Stack Train. The train went into emergency and cops from the Tropicana Avenue overpass came running down and tackeled down the suspects right infront of the train and crew. Then last summer in Vegas, I went railfanning near the same spot and saw lots of homeless people building camps and tents around the signals and under the underpass until a UP signal maintainer's truck came up with an LVPD officer and stormed all the homeless people and drinkers out. The UP trains were stopped, then the trains were allowed through.

No big deal, but I was watching trains one evening last summer at the old NYC depot in Wyandotte, Mich, when a coyote came trotting down the right of way, looked over at me and just kept going. Showed no alarm.
I had read somewhere, that coyotes use railroad rights of way, to travel through populated areas undetected.

I saw the Intern out of the office and at Baldwin one day. That caused quite a stir with the train crew.

Re: "Strange happenings" while railfanning?
I've got a couple, I was on my way home from Durand one night, I usually follow the track in an attempt to find the unfindable, AKA a CN Train, and I was about to go over the Reed Rd Crossing, I happened to notice a bunch of lights over the crossing. I thought oh a helicopter until I realized, I couldn't hear the engine. Black object with some lights on it. I stopped and thought about it, I figured I was getting tired, It was about 1-2AM and moved on. Another time I was with Steven and we where out there waiting for a train to come for some night pictures. We heard some dogs fighting off in the distance and didn't think to much of it. About 20 minutes later, just before the train came, they're getting closer. Still didn't think much of it. Then it sounded like they where just off the road. By then we got a bit nervous. just as the train came we hopped in my truck. I remember looking down out of my window and there sat a Coyote.

Re: "Strange happenings" while railfanning?
Speaking of prostitutes, around 10 years ago I was by the NS bridge over the Maumee here in Toledo and a man & woman drove down the acess road and parked next to the ROW. They just sat there for a few as a Westbound rolled past slowing for a crew change. Then she started "goin' to work" on the guy (who was sitting in the passenger seat - car pointed West) and an Eastbound rolled over the bridge. I saw the engineer catch a glimpse of the "action" and then he suddenly leaned half way out the window for a better look! I thought for a moment he was going to fall completely out of the cab! Man - I wish I'd had the presence of mind to get a picture of that...Mike Tabone wrote:Me Steven, and Chris K saw a prostitute get out of a car in Marquette of all places.

Re: "Strange happenings" while railfanning?
Drove in behind a recently abandoned building to take a look at the sidings before they totally razed the place. There was a very expensive car back there and I pulled up next to it. The windows were dark but I could see the outline of a woman pulling her shirt on. I got out of my car (I was wearing my blue suite) and they were both straightening themselves out. I walked around the sidings for about 5-10 minutes and when I came back they were both still sitting their with the window cracked open...and they were just looking at me. I asked her if she respected herself but neither one of them replied. I got in my car and drove away. I think I caught them at an awkward moment

Re: "Strange happenings" while railfanning?
I think its like a right of passage when you railfan at Delray for the hookers to say hi.I was propositioned while watching trains at Delray this year.
Its usually the hookers, people from Ohio looking for directions back to I-75, and the endless parade of trucks going to Zug Island. I think its safe to say that when your in Detroit you see a lot of strange happenings, not just while railfannning.
And when I watch trains around Milwaukee Junction or the DCON it’s not that I am most worried about getting mugged…oh no….but those darn pheasants around there that you can’t see down in the grass and then fly up at the last second and scare the s@$t of me.
