Gregg and the people he needs to pick up at the airport in Grand Rapids picked the wrong day then, as that's where he's at right now. I'll inform him though :)

My Dad caught in in Delta Township but only had a cell phone with him. The pics aren't that good but I haven't seen the videos yet.

You guys gotta see this thing, got a lot of pics from 2-8-96 in Charlotte on the CN, the 4th of July has nothing on the Lorams. Too bad they don't operate at night, the light show is unbelievable! A set of ear plugs is highly recommended, as the noise is absolutely unreal!

Great shot Mr. Tops, & yes it did! I had the good fortune to be on the upwind side on a windy day, and the light show was spectacular, even in the daytime1 The smoke was all downwind, man are those things LOUD! Also loved the fireman on the last tank car, out west I bet he's one busy dude!!

Looked like this when it was stopped:

Closeup of one of the grinders:

It's like coal mining--I don't think these guys ever get clean.

A couple of things to notice here -- the spare grinding wheels hanging along the catwalk, and the triple-layer gray shields (Kevlar?) hanging outboard of the grinders.

Wow mikekmac, Loram sure has changed (improved) since '96, those kevlar (?) shields are totally new (to me), back then they just had loose "flaps", the sparks were something, got great '96 shots if I can convince my wife to try to post here! Thanks for the shots (& Mr. Tops).

It figures that they would run it today...even since I got in photography/started watching this stuff, this machine has always run when I am either away and unable to see it, or, if I am around, is gone before I get to the tracks.
I'm starting to think that I'll never catch this stupid thing...

RG311 is on the Mount Clemens sub. Just heard him get a track warrant from TD 2 160.530 CH 2.
Track Warrant 8094 to RG311 north. Work between Haven & Mileage 40, 04:49pm.

Just cleared the Track Authority 8094 by Richmond, all switches are lined back. TD 2 is calling them a cab. 05:23pm.

Found this on another group of a Rail Grinder in Montana. This is what they look like when new.

Railgrinder did the Lincoln Secondary and then headed south on the Detroit line ( spotted them at Northline in Wyandotte). Sure did leave alot of hot spots along the way. A little late, also spotted them headed into East yard on 7/24 to tie-up for the day.
