AMTK 48 & 49

Has anyone heard rumor or is there any truth to the idea that Amtrak may start bringing 48 & 49 through Michigan on a regular basis?

I had talked to someone who said that this was an idea that may happen. Just wondered how far fetched it was or if it is an actual possibility.

Now why would Amtrak do that? They have enough problems keeping on time on the NYC why would they want to add more time to the trains? What benfits would there be? Conrail won't let #29 around the Junction Yard secondary because of the Fort St. viaduct (which will clear Superliners) so the trains have to be wyed at CP Scotten adding more time to the train. You would need more locomotives with ITC equipment and you would still have the major problem....Porter to Chicago.

No amtreck train 29 and 49 will be go to C SX Toledoe Deshler Sidney Indyanappolis Tera Hote Chicago. This will alow rdiers to get to from Toledoe to Indyannapolis and tera Hote to Chicaago and in bewteen.

ur WRONG topz - they be takin it via Michigan Mainline so they canz shove it up the AA connnection and roll to Owossoooo 'cauz they saw how many people like trainz up there last summer and want all that biz.

More seriously - I'd think there's about zero percent chance of that happening. Though they've used it as an emergency detour there is a laundry list of reasons that it'd take too long & be too expensive to ever really consider it.

I hard metera is goin 2 run there train in to mitchigin up to on teh mi lion an then up 2 gran delk an then up 2 gradn rappids up than 2 MAnisstea for peepol that want 2 go 2 teh beech thare. i hard alsow that amtrek is goin 2 runn terbow lioner on CXS saginawl Sub frum toleedo to SB&S @ flint, MI an then to up in to Thum of MI for peepol that want 2 see teh laek.

Is the Fort Street viaduct comment meant to be contradictory, or is there a real reason Amtrak trains couldn't use the Junction Yd Secondary? I don't suppose it would be realistic to route one of the eastern through trains via Michigan/Detroit and down through Toledo anyways.

Not being that familiar with the non CASO routings between Detroit and Buffalo, is there a viable Canadian alternative?

The gibberish on this post would be better suited for the chit chat babble room.

Actually, Aaron, 29 and 49 run in the same direction. It would be more likely that 48 and 49-the Lake Shore Ltd.- would run via the Michigan Line. This would only add an hour or so to the run time and would allow it access to some larger markets. This means more potential passengers.

If Amtrak or MDOT is able to aquire the remainder of the Michigan Line why wouldn't Amtrak want to utilize its own assets? It's not as far-fetcheced as some may think. I, too, heard it from a source who is about 99.5% more "in-the-know" than everyone else on this board.
