Mich Railroad Maps

Unread post by freightfan »

Took a couple of maps (links below), burnt them to a CD and printed them in large format at Staples. B&W - 50 cents/sq foot. I passed on color - $8/sq ft.

http://www.michiganrailroadsassociation.com - click on Map link to the left (also has an interesting PPT presentation).

There's also this site, but I didn't print any of these.

Odd note: This last map shows MAL Jct as a spur off CN's Holly Sub, which I think is correct. The other 2 maps show MAL (but not Jct) as a CSX line originating in Wixom and terminating short of Orchard Lake. See the MDOT map insert. But I don't see an MAL Jct from the CN on these 2 maps.

Currently the MAL does have a jct with CSX. the map you saw which shows it connecting to the holly shows where the tracks have been removed. The MAL used to extend a long way, the short track now was only saved for the dinner train and the couple industries on the line. that track went all the way to romeo and i think all the way west to Jackson (i think).

The only trackage left of the MAL is from Wixom to Haggerty Rd. It stops before Haggerty rd. and I think it's officially been abandoned a bit west of there now.

I love how inaccurate the interurban route from Holland to Saugatuck is. It's like they just put a random line between the two cities and called it good. It went no where close to that angle:

I have found most of the other county maps on this website to be pretty good though. I am sure you are right about that just being a random line between the two cities. He probably had no map source for the actuall line between the two cities. Have you found other errors JT?

Haven't noticed, but this one in particular stands out to me because I grew up near that line, and I've seen at least three other maps in the last year or two that show the same inaccurate alignment for that ROW.
