These new GLC engines,

Are EMD GP38-2's?


Any one know?

Where are they getting shipped from?

They are GP38-2's ex-UP's i believe. They are coming from Puducah KY from the ex-VMV shops which is now NRE.

That reminds me...I saw them (2 of them, I think) coming north around Kanakee on CNIC on my way up to MI for the holidays on 12-23 around 1600. Here's an awesome cell phone grab shot of 395 while driving north on I-57. My photography skills are digressing...

And the truck has a similiar color scheme as GLC unit. You couldn't have set that up better than what you caught by chance on the fly I think it's a great pic.

Are there some buildings missing in the background? Something about that angle looks odd to me.

The transload doesn't seem to transload anymore........or were you referring to the roundhouse that used to sit in the background from WAAAYYYYY back??

The shot I usually take looks off the bridge to the South West. This was shot looking to the South East. Right into the sun if the clouds were not there. The Peoples LLC grain Co op is directly to camera right. They still use the grain elevator, But not with trains.

Yeah, I've taken a pic in that direction before. It just seems like there should be more buildings or something in the background. Maybe I'm imagining something else.

Typical 2600 gallon tank for a GP38-2. A 3600 gallon tank would completely fill the space between the trucks. Some railroads opted for the 2600 gal, others opted for the 3600 gal...the same goes for GP40-2s. So, to answer your question, no it is not smaller than normal. You may just be used to seeing a 2600 gallon tank on a 56 ft GP35, while the 2600 gal tank on a 59 ft GP38-2 tends to look smaller, although its actually the same size, but the locomotive is longer.

And yes...that is CN 2141 4th back, ex-BNSF C40-8W...

CSX GP38-2s 2556-2559 (ex-Durham & Southern) had 1700 gallon tanks. 56, 58 and 59 still have them, while 2557 now has a 3600 gallon tank. Other smaller railroads are similar.

I wouldn't want to pay for a "fillup" on any of them
