I heard a southbound CN train by my house a few hours ago, looks to be the same train that struck a teenager on oak street in Wyandotte. I have no other info about this accident and no word on his/hers condition :?
If anyone can find a link to any news about this, will be very appreciated.

I am glad didn't go to Oak today like planned. I would have been standing by Charlie and seeing what he did.

Yeah, he had posted on facebook about it. He said that him and the crew were the first to get to him. Apparently the kid was wearing headphones and never looked to see what was going on.

According to Fox2 he was wearing headphones and didn't hear it coming. The kid was flown to Henry Ford Detroit, had surgery then was transferred to Childrens Hospital. Hopefully some rapid debriefing and intervention for the crews will or already has taken place.

Still blows my mind how you can't hear a train blowing MUCH louder than the music in your headphones.

He was probably tuning everything out other than the music.

Just bizarre. You're walking on tracks and you tune out the sound of a train horn? Did he think it was in the song he was listening to? I play my ipod pretty loud when I'm on the treadmill at the gym, but that doesn't keep me from hearing someone plodding along on another treadmill ten feet away from me.

I don't know, maybe I need to go stand next to a crossing with my music cranked in the headphones to see how easily a train horn blends in. In the meantime, it still baffles me.

Maybe for some reason he thought the train was on one of the other lines.

Probably would have been wise to verify an assumption like that. Pretty high stakes.

At Oak street, you can see the headlight of a northbound train all the way to Pennsylvania Road, which is three or four minutes away. Headphones or not, a simple look back now and then is in order! Being a frequent trainwatcher at Oak street, I can't believe the stupid kids in that area. I have seen kids playing chicken with oncoming trains, standing on the tracks until the last second. My sympathies are with the train crews who have to contend with this every day. Look for increased railroad police presence in the area now.

Hopefully this kid talks and tells the world HOW he didn't hear the train's horn. I want to know what specific music can mask the incredibly loud level of a train horn so well that you can't hear it.

He's a teen...doesn't matter what music he's listening to, he had it cranked up and in his own world. I have 2 teens myself. They blast all kinds of music. And we used to live near tracks and a crossing (Holly Sub) so we're very familiar with a trains' horn and how loud it can be. Should've never been on the tracks in the first place.

It'll be interesting to see what he says if he isn't brain dead.
