Train Strikes and Kills Person in Waterford Township

Unread post by Michigan Railfan »

ClickOnDetroit reports that a pedestrian was killed by a train in Waterford Township. Police have not released any info about the victim or the train. The only thing I can tell by the picture is that it is an autorack train.

Looks like CN M371 north of W Pontiac on the Holly Subdivision.

Location of the accident is Frembes Rd. Which is the third crossing north of CP W Pontiac.

I looked at theoaklandpress.com and according to witness accounts they say they heard a long train horn before the accident. I'm wondering if the crew saw the person on the tracks and they didn't move possibly indicating a suicide?? Just theorizing of course...

The ClickOnDetroit article had two pictures, one showing Frembes Rd. blocked, and one of an ambulance in a grass field alongside the tracks. I think the one of the ambulance in the field is the strike zone, as a few other people are seen next to the tracks too. If this is where the pedestrian was hit, it must've been a suicide, as there would be no way for it to really be an 'accident'.

The updated ClickOnDetroit article says that the man was 45 years old, but was not identified. They say he may have been listening to music while walking on the tracks. I don't understand how he couldn't have felt or heard the train...

theoaklandpress.com lists the guys' name and age. They're still looking for any witnesses.

Frembes Rd is the middle of a curve. Can't blame the train crew for not seeing the sucker.

Those situations are sad on all ends. Its tough for the crew because all you can do is blow the horn and ride it out.

They should invent some kind of projectile that shoots out from the nose of the loco that would knock a person off the tracks. Kind of a hi-tech cow catcher.

Then they'd get sued because the device caused them emotional distress and bodily harm.
