Curious as to what role GT 4433 plays on MQT? Saw it in Manistee last week and wondered does it suffle the yard cars, Filer City plant switcher or used on locals? It is a good looking GP9.

Built in 1954 part of an order for 17 units for GTW (15 freight & 2 with torpedo tubes). They were the heaviest of the GTW GP9 orders until the GP18's came along in 1960 and later ex-CV & GT units.

I think I have seen pictures of 4433 shuffling cars around the grain elevator in Newaygo.

Thanks AARR. I tried to find GLLX on The Diesel Shop to see how many other units they have. Only listed a PO box in Saugatuck?

GLLX is Great Lakes Locomotive. They own the 4433, the 4428 in Flint at Conrad Yelvington, the 921 in Lansing at Conrad Yelvington, the 3 SD40-2's on Marquette Rail and ex Leelanau Scenic #4 in Manistee.

Here's our wiki write up:

There is also an Alco out there somewhere with the GLLX reporting marks on it. My understanding is it not owned by GLLX, the marks were loaned to it so it could be moved. I beleive its down my Missouri or Tennessee.

The 4433 is usually running around Manistee, here is a photo I took of it a few years ago. These are from back in I wanna say 2009, I had just gotten the blue truck at the time.

4433 tags along on the Z151 from time to time.....

That Alco with the GLLX reporting marks was at the time GLLX 850....

Thread about when the marks were used is here: viewtopic.php?f=27&t=13084

The only time I've shot it, this night shot of Z151 waiting to get on CSX, sandwiched between the 02 and 01.

Thanks to all for your coverage of 4433, that's what makes this site a favorite. I now see the many roles this unit plays and the photos are great.

My buddy Stan actually ran this power when it was still on the GTW.

Yep, loved running them, I was allowed to when the shops were still active in Battle Creek to put them on the point if we had a GP38AC or SD40 in the consist I would tell the Shops Hostler to put GP9/18's in the lead for two reasons, 1) Just to Give the old girls a chance to be up front and in the lime light for the fans and me for the last time before they departed. 2)lower amperage ratting exceed duration ratings(I could keep an eye on it)

Another example how the old MQT would go out of their way to appeal to railfans :)
