GLC gets old PRR baggage car

Unread post by PerRock »

A friend of mine from NJ just posted a picture on Facebook of an old PRR baggage car starting it was destined for the GLC. What might this car be used for?

Thanks.

I can tell you that it is: RPCX 9312 and that it is an B-60B baggage car.

Ah yes SRI, I forget that they are up there.

They may be getting it ready for the new Howell-Ann Arbor commuter service.

No need for a baggage car on those runs.

Although maybe if they need a HEP car they can rebuild it

IIRC the Lake Superior Transportation Museum in Duluth has a HEP unit installed in a baggage car. I cannot recall the cars linage, either Great Northern or Northern Pacific. The car doubles as a snack bar/ souvenir stand.

That leads to some speculation , if GLC has plans for excursion service, maybe a casino run between SE Michigan and Traverse City (the track is right behind the casino) why not a power car?

Are there still enough bi-levels still in Cadillac to start an excursion train?
Assume they would need a power car for those? It does sound like an interesting concept though. Petosky also has a casino. So here goes a casino cruise from Mt. Pleasant to Petosky and Traverse City. I like it!!! Remember when Michigan Northern ran those snowmobile trains from Comstock Park to Cadillac? I was on the first one and they were 6 hours late as they had hit an automobile on the way out of Cadillac and got to Comstock Park in a snow storm at about 5:30pm. The Alco won that one.

The car on the shop track has been there for a month now. I looked up pictures of the type of baggage supposedly coming and it dont match that car. I havent checked numbers though.

GLC is putting themselves out there as car rebuilders to drum up biz. They have a PRR blunt end inside, the baggage on the shop track and now another PRR car coming. The RPCX reporting marks are the easiest way to move a passenger car short of showing a railroad owning it.

I've always wanted to gather together restored PRR passenger equipment and run a solid PRR excursion train behind Bennett Levin's twin PRR E8s. (Much the same as the group from Minnesota runs solid MILW trains behind #261). Maybe GLC is unknowing making my dreams a reality! :D
