Tomorrow's Road Rally in Croswell- Atkins Update

Unread post by Dan M »

Today I spent about 2 hours or more making things a little more accessible on the trail and the old ROW. It is about a 10 minute walk for me to the water station. I trimmed brush, briars, pickers, thorns, and other things that scratch so one can navigate a little more safely and see. I have lots of scratches from my adventure today.

The trail to the "monolith" is still rough and full of thorns, poison ivy, and the like. I did trim some wild rose around the area that prohibited walking to it.

I have no problem taking guided tours to both for those that want to see them.

The mosquitoes have not been bad.

I suggest wearing a good set of boots, jeans or long pants, to protect your lowers from all the scratchy stuff. If anyone wants to get water, fill a canteen, etc. let me know. My house is right by the area there and the hose flows cold well water.

Again, if you are not in good health, I would not recommend going to the "monolith." That is a more difficult hike with some steep areas, trees, tangles, and other things to step over. There is an alternate route to it, but it takes longer.

Hello, Dan!

I'm originally from the Detroit area, and grew up around Pt. Sanilac, Sandusky, etc. I plan on being near the area in the next month or so if all goes well. Have been poring over your maps, topos, and checking out your photos and your site. Would you be open to the idea of maybe giving me a quick tour of the "monolith" and the water station site when I'm in the area? Don't worry, I'm not an axe murder(haven't been caught yet, really!).

I just moved from Kansas City MO and love looking and imagining old railroads running through the areas. There are a few where I now live near Raleigh NC.

Was looking at your site https://sites.google.com/site/thumbrrhistory/home and really enjoyed it--hope you get a chance to add more photos, etc.

ON A side note, I need to create a Google site, and I like the template you chose. Do you happen to remember which template that was? I like the layout and the drop-downs on the left-hand side.

Other than that, hope you had some good folks out for your tour today. Wish I could have taken it, but am stuck here in NC for the next couple of weeks.

Hope you can help, but if not, I understand. --Alan
