John Engler Locomotive

It looks like the "John Engler" that resided along 131 in Grand Rapids will be finding a new home in Coopersville with the C&M. Look for crews to begin work as early as Monday preparing it for the move.

Questions...

- Since when did the previous Michigan Gov. get a locomotive named after him?
- Where is located?
- What does it look like?

:?: :?: :?:

MQT: I do believe it, the caboose and the canopy will be trucked to Coopersville.

J32885:
-Not sure on the naming
-Grooters Property, US 131 near Hall Street, Grand Rapids, MI (Actual address is 219 Canton Street Southwest, but it is best seen from 131, and shows up in the Google Street view)

NS wasn't interested in selling the property to Grooters (Or anyone for that matter -I heard that direct from the NS real estate guy, This is not railfan scuttlebutt). Engler "persuaded" NS to sell. Apparently Grooters wanted to "honor" his "friend". I kinda see the resemblance in the loco boiler -short and round LOL.

Has a spot in C-ville been designated? Like the tower track?

Engine will be parked on the tower siding facing 1st St. Not sure what the plans are to do with the caboose or the canopy.

Sounds like the canopy will be used to help shelter passengers waiting for the train... Not sure where the caboose will wind up yet.

Any plans to get her restored for future operations? And any other history on that locomotive as far as builder, original owners?

No.

It came from somewhere down south originally.

They can put the tamper guts in the boiler and run a chain down to one of the drivers.... :P

The locomotive would make a great center piece in a railroad themed miniature golf course. One hole could have a trestle. Another through a mountain. And one across a spinning turn table. Get a hole in one and you can blow the whistle.

Alco 1924, Augusta RR 300, IMHO, it's junk. The 1395 has a better chance of being restored and I don't expect that one will ever be operational.

Look close, the engine is blistering bad. No canopy in C'ville and it will look shabby in no time. As for the canopy, it going in the west parking lot "temporarily". IMHO, it will sit there a long time :(

Why not put the canopy over it in C-ville? Is there a clearance issue or something?

If the engine is named "John Engler" it will be a wide load, no doubt.

Note: The above was NOT political commentary, merely a low-brow fat joke told in poor taste. If you are offended, I suggest you get thicker skin.

Wierd you should say that, because my exceptionally thick skin is probably what makes me look fat!
