GLC 393 - Repaint w/ New Livery
Photos taken on 4-13-16 by Bob M, uploaded by request.
This should be the first trip for this unit since the paint shop. It was a southbound grain train.

Those look like Alco trucks on that unit.

As a disclaimer before someone jumps on me, I know mine is just the opinion of another foamer, but here we go:
That makes the roadname on the long hood harder to read, very much so at speed. Especially on the right side the roadname looks awkward, with that random division of color between the "K" and "E." GREAT LAKES CENTRAL looked pretty good in just white on blue, but this is muddled.

They are. Those trucks came from the Alco FA units the Ann Arbor traded in for the GP35s in the 60's

Re: GLC 393 - Repaint w/ New Livery
Does anyone else think there are similarities between GLC's new paint scheme and LSRC's?

Except blue and white, not really. LSRC is much darker, totally different striping and logos, far more gray on the striping that white.AARR wrote:Does anyone else think there are similarities between GLC's new paint scheme and LSRC's?
Pretty much like comparing G&W to BNSF. Same basic colors, not much else.

This ain't a new paint scheme or livery...It's a one off anniversary unit.

Or is this a case of... "What? We are our of blue paint?"BerkshireKid wrote:This ain't a new paint scheme or livery...It's a one off anniversary unit.
Re: GLC 393 - Repaint w/ New Livery
It's terrible. As someone said, looks like they ran out of paint. Or looks like a bad paint scheme a model railroader would come up with.

I like it, although it reminds me a little of the interface on the Michigan Railroads (.com) website. Actually, it reminds me a lot of Dale's website logo...

I totally agree, and I'm a railfan with a degree in Graphic Design. I had to do a double take on the first picture, because I thought something was messed up the way the "S" hangs off into the grey.Steve B wrote:As a disclaimer before someone jumps on me, I know mine is just the opinion of another foamer, but here we go:

I'm not too familiar with GLC's past, is there a reason to this half & half paint scheme? Either way I'm sure there is a better way of doing a heritage unit.

The main thing is the management and owner of the railroad likes it.

Re: GLC 393 - Repaint w/ New Livery
My coverage of the unit making its first trip down to Osmer. I did not anticipate going to get them, but with a perfect storm of timing, me hearing the AA on the scanner, and remembering it was the tin unit, I decided to make the drive. While I do still think it was goofy, it is really neat to see the GP35 in the fresh paint, and I does not look that bad.

I think the first time I saw the ex-AA Geeps was back when they started running the 1225 excursions in the late '80s-early '90s. It occurred to me the other day, that these everyday freight engines are now older than the restored steam engine was back then!
