Re: Amtrak train kills pedestrian
2 + 2 = 4
Person on tracks + train = death or serious injury.
Simple math, basic results.
It's too bad people don't respect it.

In the perspective of a suicidal person, they don't WANT to respect that because they want to die. My best friend offed himself 2 years ago. Trust me; once you get to a certain point, NOTHING except physical restraint helps them. It's like talking to a brick wall.Saturnalia wrote:2 + 2 = 4

Re: Amtrak train kills pedestrian
A likely cause but the linked article does not mention suicide. Sometimes people trespass and get caught by a train. (An later article does mention suicide and gives contact numbers for those seeking help.)
The linked article did give us one insight into the train:
"An Amtrak passenger train could be seen stopped on the tracks east of the U.S. 23 overpass. It is unknown if the train was occupied."
Not occupied? It must be one of those self driving trains ... and running out of service.

Re: Amtrak train kills pedestrian
Tier4GEVO speaks the exact truth here. My best friend of 30+ years chose to end his life on CN near the Lapeer Amtrak station on the evening of Wednesday, June 13, 2018. We (family, friends, the medical profession) all tried our best, we tried so very, very hard, but nothing we did for him really helped. At the end of the day I don't know of anything that could or would have prevented this tragedy from occurring. So sad. Condolences to my friend's family and of course to the train crew, too. Goodbye to my best friend.
Re: Amtrak train kills pedestrian
People intent on taking their life can rarely be stopped. And the serious ones don't give any warning, because they don't want to be stopped. We had a family member take his life several years ago. The medical examiner told us that once someone makes the decision to take their life, they act perfectly normal because they have found the solution to whatever is bothering them. And she said it happens far more often than most people realize.
"Ask your doctor if medical advice from a TV commercial is right for you".
