Runaway cars on GRE/CSX - 02-05-07

Very strange short quip of info from this morning. As I was putting along on US-131 (crazy with these ice roads, -4 temp on the drive in), I heard the CSX RN dispatcher informing inspectors near Market St that GRE had a couple cars get away from them, and were rolling south out of their interchange. Within about 10 minutes though, she signaled to these inspectors that GRE had resolved this issue. Heard D708 doing their air test around 8:30am, but nothing out moving about.

Stayin in for lunch today, too cold to sit in the car to eat food...ug, wake me up when this weather is over.

case in point, you admitted only railfanning at Judd for 15 minutes, while I'd be out there for close to an hour, you wimp! :)
This way, I can railfan online at the warmth of my desk during my lunch.

Hey I understand completely how you guys feel when it comes to this cold. There is no wimp when it comes to freezing to death. I have to walk a mile to work in the weather and being out in the car railfanning is just about the same except your in a car and I am out in the crap. I havent been around long enough to see the brutal winters that used to come once or twice a year. All I got to say is stay warm and be safe out there.

It can be tough to take quality pictures if you cannot hold the camera still.

Just a few notes from the drive home from work....
Approx 6:50pm, D801 with lite engines cleared Jension heading west.

Heard a new symbol, CSX Y180, working Wyoming Yard.

NS BG31 i believe toiling around Hugart Yard.

At Waverly, MMRR Z627 was doing some work.. Y121 was waiting to come in, while a late CSX D700 was making it's way east, currently at Wells. All those were going on at 6:30pm.

On a positive note, new scanner connection got me pickin up yard jobs switch at Wyoming Yard from Holland, and heard that D801 clearing Vriesland all the way from Ann St in GR.

Hey now, I had priorities. My girlfriend was getting out of work and I didn't want her to drive home, so I left to go pick her up. Had I had the whole day to railfan, I WOULD have stayed out there! :P Chivalry is still alive in 2007. :D

Well, when I was a kid, I used to have to walk five miles to school, uphill both ways in a blinding snowstorm with no boots or gloves!

Let me tell you about that! Back in December of '96, I was driving from Tulsa, OK to Detroit. About 100 miles into my trip, the heater core stopped working. I drove the rest of the way with NO heat with about 20 degree temps outside. And a word of advice, don't EVER waste your money on those stupid ceramic car heaters they sell at truck stops. You plug them into your cig lighter and put it on the dashboard and it's supposed to heat up the interior. They are crap! Waste of money...they don't work a ALL.
