GLC GP38 incident
Anyone know what happened to the GLC geep that has the bent pilot? Saw the photos from facebook per a friend of mine but I do not have access to the group. I thought I'd see more on this incident but nothing has really come up on it. Sounds like maybe it bent the frame enough to where this unit will be retired and two more GP35's brought out of the deadline after the SD35's are all up and running? All just speculation at this point.

Re: GLC GP38 incident
I can't say what happened, but from what it looked like in the pictures I say they they hit something hard. From what I saw it did look like the frame was bent, so it will be interesting to see what they do. I would like to see the GP35's back in service, but I would if that is a stretch to see happen.
Does anyone know where the damaged GP38 is right now?

Is that the loco that hit a road grader some time back?? Seem to remember hearing about it, but thought is was repaired.
Re: GLC GP38 incident
The rumor is contact was made between it and a freight car. Obviously such contact was above normal coupling speed.

Re: GLC GP38 incident
Maxwell,
Sounds like there was a higher speed collision of some kind. Rumors been flying but FB posts get deleted because crew/GLC can get in trouble.
I suggest we all just light a candle, mourn said engine, delete post and move on so nobody gets in trouble.
Re: GLC GP38 incident
The damage was such that the unit wasn't movable in the train and was setout.
So you can be really sure the boss found out.
What is said or not said here would have no bearing on that.

#397?
Re: GLC GP38 incident
I completely agree. I think any time equipment is damaged to the point of it becoming inoperable the boss is going to find out. It may not be the top boss for a Class 1, but it will be high enough that an investigation would be done. At a railroad like the GLC with a lot less management layers you can be sure the highest level management already knows and has been investigating. What is said by railfans on an internet forum should have no impact, unless it says something not known or understood (ie a video of the incident) or is said by the crew themselves.

Also, a couple weeks after, there was a job posting for an engineer based in Cadillac on the GLC. You do the math....

Re: GLC GP38 incident
If you're talking about the incident back in early 2020, that was 399. That unit's since been put back into service after a brief interruption of service to fix it.joeyuboats wrote: ↑Sat Dec 19, 2020 5:43 amIs that the loco that hit a road grader some time back?? 397 is sitting in Owosso waiting whatever outcome.
Re: GLC GP38 incident
Not just railroads. Many businesses will railroad employees under the idea they are guilty until they prove their innocence. Sadly, most businesses who do this have much larger purse strings to fight the dismissal than the employees who they dismiss. Even when the company is clearly wrong, they will settle the case rather than go to trial and have a verdict against them actual end up on public record (and risk negative publicity).

Resign with a clean record, or be fired for cause.

Or have a union behind you with a griever that knows what they are doing and take it to the National Labor Relations Board.
I have watched things get overturned and awarded over a years back pay (and more) way too many times for stupid terminations that happened because a TM had a vendetta or had to make bones with the upper management.
Railroading is a job where they work at terminating you from day one. Some railroads, some terminals are way worse then others. I have worked for both at one time or another.

Protecting employees fired for "stupid" reasons is good. Protecting employees fired for good cause? Not so good. No railroad needs unsafe employees.

Re: GLC GP38 incident
Unsafe emloyees..those, for the most part, don't hold up under scrutiny of the LRB. "Claim denied." But the union has to TRY or they get into a lawsuit from the employee over 'representation problems.' That's why some miscreants come before "The Mast" or 'on the carpet' as they say, time and time again and the local really loaths representing them...but has to do it.
1% of the employees usually make 80+% of the local reps work.
