Star Clipper Derails

Unread post by trainjunkie47 »

The Valentines Day Special Star Clipper Dinner Train derailed at the Pontiac Trail crossing. As of this time, I have no details except to say there are no injuries and that all cars remained upright.

4 cars derailed, at the station crossing of Pontiac Trail, blocked the road for 10 hrs. Only going 3mph when he derailed. Passengers didn't even notice it. On Channel 7 WXYZ they showed a Cat Pipe Layer moving the cars back on track. They say it took so long due to the cars being so old, but I think it would have taken 10 hours non the less due to the wreckers having to come from Ohio or some far place.

A historic 8-car dinner train carrying 125 people for a special Valentine’s Day feast derailed and shut down traffic Wednesday night in Walled Lake.

Walled Lake police Sgt. Paul Shakinas said the Michigan Star Clipper Dinner Train slid off the tracks about 10:30 p.m. when operators flipped a snow-covered switch that wouldn't function, Walled Lake police said.

No one was injured, and the accident shut down traffic between Maple Road and South Commerce until 9 a.m. Thursday. Shakinas said an Ohio company was called to help put four railcars back on the tracks.

B. Allen Brown, president and chief executive officer of Train Travel Inc., operators of Star Clipper, said the cold weather damaged a switch on the track, derailing the train. He said the train was traveling at 3 m.p.h. at the time of the incident. He said the guests and staff were in good spirits.

“It was a little hiccup. The train is back up and running,” Brown said. “These are fragile and historic railcars, so we took our time to make sure they were put back on the tracks properly.”

One can make a mistake and own up to it, but still feel guilty.

I hope they got refunds considering the train moved about 20 feet from its resting spot.

F7a is an Ex Erie, Coe has it numbered 725, I got a feeling they kept the number it came with, I'll have to look at my photos, they have a PH&D decent S2 #52, and a NW5?. And a little witcomb or something thats gas powered that you never see on the road.
