Nice dispatching... 03-13-07

Unread post by ~Z~ »

Off on the lunch break, and as soon as I get out, I hear the defect detector in Zeeland sound off, 500+ axles... turns out that's an empty coal train, heading west towards Chicago...
Anyway, dispatcher lines them through the signals at Zeeland, and they get a red at E Waverly.
Ahead of them, Q326 is sitting in the yard, tieing up the pass, while track #1 is out of service for a work authority 707. Dispatcher thought that Q326 had the recrew on board, ready to go so that they could pull forward into the siding at Waverly to let E945 by, but the crew that was on board was dead at 11:45am. A recrew was on it's way from GR... Sounds like they have James St in town blocked, no plans to cut the crossing from what I heard.
D700 is heading east, down near Grand Junction currently. Maintainers trying to also work between Holland and Grand Junction... that one mistake, hoping there was a line out of Holland, was definately a problem.

n903 and e945 where's gorden

Unread post by donnieland »

zack e945 moved west at 300pm or so
they ended up going the main thru holland as edsal cleared the main at
300pm
326 had died on the holland siding, but didn't make the pickup
when the recrew arrived and talked to rn , they informed him
they had to make the pickup yet, the air went out of the voice,
rn then asked them to pull up into waverly siding, siding and let e945
go by on the holland siding, then push back into the holland siding
and make the pickup, they said ok , but that they would be dead at
holland also, then when e945 went west to middle waverly rn couldn't
get the switch to throw, lucky that edsal cleared up so they could use the main,
when gorden was dispatching he would have called 945 and told them to find a hole east of zeeland and wait till he told them to come ahead,
once rn cleared 945 by the was at west hudsonville the next signal he has
control of is at east waverly.
the signals between hudsonville and east waverly are number plated block
signals which by rule is a stop then proceed at restricted speed prepared to stop in half the distanced they are able to see. thus 945 was able to go to east waverly then have to wait about and hour and a half or better with
104th/ james st blocked . the crew called once to ask permisson by east waverly to clear 104th and they would cut 112th ave so traffic could move,
but rn said to wait, as gordon would say after reading this

" darn the luck "
also a n903 when north about 15 mins ahead of the 945
the n903 came via toledo and gr - the ns must still be a parking lot into
chicago?

N903 / E945

Unread post by BL2-1843 »

N-903-11 was running on the blocks of Essexville empty E945 at Howell at 2:45am this morning untill, N903 developed air problems on the computer screen on the lead unit, BNSF 9870 (9537 trailing) as they were braking coming down the hill into AnnPere. After blocking Lucy Road forTwo hours and 30 minutes, and phone calls to both the CSX and BNSF mechanical desks, they finally got the problem solved and under way again. Somewhere along the line, they picked up two CSX units, 5962, one of the exNS units, and 8340 to aid in the stuggle coming up the hill west out of Plymouth.

This alone made D709-12 turn at Fowlerville after waiting for several hours for trains and go back west without switching any east of Fowlerville customers. He went back west over the DD with 176 axels, 42 cars and two units, 2672 and 2520. What started off as a good move running D709 in the night with a lessor lack of trains, lately, they have had to wait for quite a number, thus not being able to finish up their daily assignment of work. The string continues though of not having to have a recrew since the new time started.

Q326 just cleared Milepost 135 at 8:22 p.m. Whoa, talk about late!

The extra two units were on it when it left Walbridge. I passed them at Vickers with the two SD70AC's and -840B pulling for all they were worth.

A few GR area notes from later on last night.

-Amtrak arrived about 11:40PM, over an hour late.
-NS Z739(B49) waited for Amtrak to arrive and head for Ann Street before coming off the Hughert Runner and up the wye to switch at Joe Brown yard, four cars out, four cars in. And in a first I've seen, they actually took the Conrail transfer caboose with them to use on the shove back to Hughert. NS 3069 was the power.
-While NS was up at Joe Brown, Q335 arrived as D908 at 12:25AM. CSX 7631 and GCFX 3060 leading. 6 cars of large diameter pipe and 5 cars of small diameter for American Cast Iron. Train length was probably about 80 to 90 cars.
-MQT called the RN for the Grand Rapids Yard limits at roughly 12:30AM.
-Q327 cleared Lamar and left the yard at 12:42AM.
-12:45AM, NS left Joe Brown with MQT of their heals.
-12:52AM-Mqt clear Watson St. GMTX 2676 leading GLLX 3003. 51 cars. Lots of DOWX covered hoppers, four empty SGVY hoppers from Ludington and some other misc cars. Not a single MQT boxcar though.
