Here is my vote more wimpiest (looking) locomotive type. I think it's the fact that they built it on freight car trucks!

Those aren't freight car trucks, they're standard GE B type trucks. And they were built with 3,600 HP engines, but that one has been gutted and turned into an RC drone.

and in the case of the ex-SBD B36-7's, they were actually rated at 3750HP.

Alright geniuses, I KNOW they ARE NOT freight car trucks. The implication is that they are aesthetically lame looking. Even more so on the wide cab Santa Fe engines and such. Like Arnold Schwarzenegger with ballerina shoes!

personally i think these locomotives are far more interesting then a newer locomotive because of there history. But thats just me

I definitely agree they are interesting. Especially now that they are old news. Still think that GE coulda come up with some way to make them look a little beefier.

I gotta agree with Pete on this one... those trucks just don't look right... there's just too much space to either side of the truck before you get to the frame. Makes it look like a cheap Bachmann toy.

I thought that is what the pre-GEVO's were? Cheep Bachmann toys.

Well why you dump the B truck you bump it up to C trucks, and Put a bigger engine in it, then you have a great loco, I think. But I am a huge LS&I fan.

I really dont think there are any ugly locos, the only locos i am not to fond of are the NS high-hoods, but I dont even really dis-like those.

:P I have improved the locomotive to be a little more tough looking. Here is my idea...

If it was a cheap Bachman toy, wouldn't it look like this? :P

As for wimpy looking, didn't EMD build some GP 7s or 9s with switcher trucks?

Yes they did, I believe for the CN or CP on the light branchlines.

Gotta agree with you on that, Pete. Even as a child, with a Chessie model similar to that style (which I still have), I HATED the way it looked. That snub nose just doesn't look intimidating enough to me. And locos should look INTIMIDATING, darn it!

The rhino-looking noses on those locos are my least favorite in appearance. No amount of history or rarety or whatever can ever make me appreciate the way they look. Every time I drive down 131 and see them in the yard I just cringe. Image

Now come on! Dissin' the NS high hoods? I think not!

How about a view out of one too: Image

Well, I guess if you like rhinos or girls with HUGE noses, then the high hood is for you. :P

Well I think you may get your wish, just back from Judd and there are 3 over by the engine house, kinda like they are going to be on there last leg soon slowly phased out, but one was still hooked to the switcher by the office, so I dunno
