The frame on 974 is bent after a mishap somewhere up in Oscoda or Tawas cant remember which now.

When did the 974 get damaged, and what sort of event would bend the frame? Did it collide with something?

Last I was in Michigan, it was reported to me that the 469 needed new engine seals as a result of being overheated at some point.

This is the first I've heard of these units being scrapped. Does this mean that the future of the 975 is also bleak? It was awaiting a prime mover replacement as a result of a failed crankshaft.

469 is currently for sale and is being looked at by two historical/excursion groups. Given its significance, I don't believe that it will be cut up.
I cannot speak for 974.

Gregg,

Thank you for the information. I think this unit would be ideal for pulling excursion trains, and it would probably be well cared for. Are both of these groups in Michigan?

I'm not sure if I can name them...
But Yes, both groups are in Michigan.

All of that is wrong.
469 has not yet been sold.
974's future is still in jeapordy.
And there are NO leasers coming.

How about we all just find out what’s going to happen when it does. I’m sick of all the hearsay from people on boards, and it’s not just concerning this topic.

Yes, 1174 has arrived. Thats makes 8 GP40M-3's on the railroad now.

I caught the 1177 leading the 2052 north through Oscoda on January 4. I believe this is the first time I've seen EMD's this far north. Interestingly, there were two CSX gons tacked on to the end of the train that night. I rarely see anything other than covered hoppers on that line.
