HESR's GP38's are being run theough the shop and appear to be having APU units installed. BOTH 8802 and 8804 are up out of Durand and have been now for a while. 8804 has 6 new white stickers on its each side of the long hood. having checked on 8802. 2014 appears to be having the work done now as it is down in the shop and has been for about a week now. I'll keep an eye out and see what units seem to get the APU units installed.

auxiliary power unit. Allows the units prime mover to stay warmed even when its shut down and cold outside. will save fuel.

Do they still run and operate like they did before, or do they remove the cab? I must be thinking of booster units.

No they loose there cab in the process. I just got this from a friend on the HESR. Engineers are now requiired to carry a rain jacket and thermal bibs for the cold. One other requirment for engineer and conductor is a lawn chair to set on the walkway, in order to sit down. Company approved bullhorns (not supplied) will be needed by both engineer and conductor. Engineer will be required to yell into the Bullhorn
HONKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
HONKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
HONKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
HONKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK,
or even Get out of the way stupid!.

Conductor will be roquired to yell,

DING, DING, DING, DING, DING, DING, DING, DING, DING, DING, DING, DING, DING, DING, DING, DING, DING, DING, DING, DING, DING, DING, or Here we come.

Both will repeate the process until occupying the crossing.

My friend that works for HESR went to NECR for training on the APU installation. We were talking about the APUs at a Christmas party. He indicated that there had been some problems but that the APU's made life much easier for them.
