Why is AC power used on heavier trains? For heavy-haul and slow speed uses, AC takes the lead because the AC motors handle heat better. AC is more efficient than DC.

What is the difference between a GP40 and a GP40-2? -2's have modular electronic cabinets and some minor external difference, sight glass, blower housing moved slight back, battery covers bolted, etc.
Why did CSX rebuild the SD40-2 into a SD40-3? Essentially to improve safety and performance of the aging SD40-2 fleet.
Has there ever been a derailment at Leipsic, Ohio? There have been some vehicle/train accidenst but I am not aware of a derailment.

Why did CSX rebuild the SD40-2 into a SD40-3? to increase the life span of the sd40-2's and make them ugly

Nothing mechanically wise, the 40 instead of 44 is a CSX preferance (I guess they like round ##s)
