A Taste of Detorit Railroading

Unread post by Ypsi »

On Thursday the 23rd, I was in Detroit to railfan with mlineamtrak. We started our day early and got 7 trains on 6 different lines, form 6 different railroads. This video was a nice taste or railroading and railfanning in Detroit.

This video could best be described as a taste of Detroit railfanning, as we caught trains on different lines, and different railroads, only repeating lines once. Please sit back and enjoy an awesome day of fanning in Detroit.

The first train of the day was NS B18 returning from Oakwood yard to Wayne Yard as a light power GP60.

After seeing B18, we ran into the Grand Trunk unit working south of Flatrock yard.

Later that morning we caught Conrail NY-6 going on duty out of the North Yard, heading for the east industrial track. This train had a high hood GP38-2 leading the way long hood forward with a sweet P5.

After catching the Conrail local, we caught the Detroit Connecting Railroad, and ADBF company, and their SW-900 heading to work. This little switcher has an awesome S3L horn on it. Awesome to see a little switcher with a classic horn on it.

After catching the DCON, we headed to Wyandotte Michigan and caught a CN heading north with a 4 window dash 9 on point and a UP SD70ACe trailing. They were really flying as they headed north for Delray.

Shortly after NS B20, a light power move headed north as well, returning a high hood GP38-2 to Oakwood yard from Monroe.

We moved on again heading for the black top at Oakwood Yard, where we caught a CP train pulling into the yard.

Finally we made our final move and headed up to the Dearborn Amtrak station where we caught the Amtrak 350 making its stop and departing. On the going away shot Thomas the tank engine makes an incognito appearance as it will be running the next three weekends at greenfield village.

Overall a fun morning and day, always nice to get a day of trains in Detroit. Thanks for watching and reading 8)

Awesome series of shots from the Detroit area...Still plenty of traffic sources coming out of Detroit, not like it was..But nice to see Motown railroading making a bit of a comeback.

I like that last shot in the Charing Cross area taken near bridge near the Private School in Bloomfield Hills on the Holly Sub
