Durand report 2/5/09
Well its been a while since I last done a report but here we go!
I got in Durand around 9:30am to do some volunteering when I find train 396 backing up on track 1 to go collect the rest of its train on the west side of town. But then I seen them heading for Flint. Power was CN #2710 and #2461(ex-Conrail).
Then train 371 blew thru with CN #2711 & #5461 for power, but I wasn't able to get any pics of them.
Following that train a half hour later was train 385 with CN #2403 & #5761 for power.
About a half hour later train 391 showed up from Pontiac looking to make a drop off and pick up at the yard. Here we see them after hitting the high wye, they back onto the Port Huron wye to go to the yard.
I happen to see this as 391 was backing in on the wye.
And this of course!
For all you GTW fans I spotted this loco on 391 but not in the right paint.
#8823, SD70M-2, is the third power on 391.
#2666, D9-44CW, is the second power on 391.
And the lead loco #5543, SD60F, for train 391.
For all you hardcore CMGN fans, I caught a true CM train with #8903 and #8905 for power. Heres #8905
and #8903.
I was listening for a symbol to this train, I heard 501 or 395 which ever this is, but heres the train on the high wye.
Then 394 showed up with 4 locos.
CN #2596 is the lead loco for 394.
CN(GTW) #5930 is the second power for 394.
CN(ex-Conrail) #2463 is the third loco for 394.
and the fourth power for train 394 is #2678.
395 happen to wait beyond the signal on the Holly before backing into Durand yard, so I manage to get better shots of the locos. Heres BNSF #5827, which later becomes the lead power for 395 or whatever the train is.
and BNSF #9490, which was the lead power.
Well not bad for a day in Durand, I had seen a total of 8 trains, pics and info were unavailable for train 392 which went thru with 5 locos at a good speed, so I was unable to get numbers. This has been my Durand report!

Those Dash 8's are technically ex LMS, which was part owned by Conrail, but to my knowledge the units never wore CR reporting marks.

Great shots. I saw 391 parked in Pontiac with that collection of power, would have been about 8:15 or so. There have been several fallen flag boxcars in the yard lately, including a couple of hi-cubes sporting DT&I paint (barely).

Also your 5930 is actually 5931. So much for those lists that said it was in storage.

Wow great report and thanks for ALL those photos! Such a rare catch to get the twin remaining U-boats back to back on the Durand turn! Kinda makes me wish there was a Durand meet coming up this spring. Any idea about how many cars 391 took with them on their run on the Holly Sub?

Re: Durand report 2/5/09
391 took about 20-25 cars somewhere in there. I was hoping there was gonna be a spring meet in Durand, the DUSI director said we can use their grill as long as we clean up after using it. Thanks for some of the corrections guys, I rushed thru to getting the post done cuz usually when I do a long post I end up getting booted off.
Re: Durand report 2/5/09
What a great variety of power on those trains! Too bad it will soon be all gone.

Re: Durand report 2/5/09
The black foldup grill in the basement of the freight house is "our" grill. After the last meet, no one wanted to take it home so I asked if there was someplace we could store it. Mr. Wescott said we could leave it there. There was a partial bag of charcoal, can of lighter fluid, ignitor and the grill tools. The "rent" is a hamburger or brat for the gift shop ladies on duty we we grillTrainNut85 wrote:391 took about 20-25 cars somewhere in there.
