Action report from Owosso

Well today's sightings report will be very interesting to those that read this, especially Don Simon!

Heard the usual tone of horn coming from the HESR today so I decided to see what was going on since the warmer weather decided to return.

Went ahead thinking that I would catch them on the fly, I went to a different spot to try to get good shots. Waited for ten minutes then wandered back toward where the train would be. Well from what I found was interesting, #8804 was sitting without a crew. I was just about to get my camera out to get some pics of it sitting when I heard a second horn. Turns out more cars ended up on the old NYC for storage, which came from Durand yard.

Heres CM #8804 sitting on the mainline awaiting the crew to come back to get her.


Few minutes later lo and behold sister #8802 arrives from the old NYC.

Then I got a shot of both of them

#8802 is ready to back up to go get her sister

#8802 is then seen hooking onto #8804

Then I went to the road awaiting for them to depart so I can get some last shots, here we see them getting ready to head back for Durand.

Then at the crossing the pair head off for Durand.

those cars they brought over were some of the stored ttx flats.

Thats what I was told. They must be doing some major clean up in Durand yard. I'll have to take a look when I do make a trip down that way possibly Saturday if the weather is good.

Nice catch, trainnut85. I guess this means no more service to the ammonia place at the end of the line where they're storing all the cars

Is this the line that runs south of Owosso a couple of miles to serve a place that gets a handful of tank cars per year? If yes, HESR filed an abandonment petition this week with the STB for the line. I believe the petition said the shipper received only 21 carloads in 2008 and none so far in 2009.

It is jointed rail, but a telephoto lens can make even welded rail look bad.

Wye would you need an ultra flat highspeed wye track, the ties all look solid and there is ballast whoppty doo its got a dip or two.

Sorta agree, the wye isn't the best but it works. Ties are ok rail is decent but hey as long it stays upright while i'm going over it, it's good track.
