MQT Rail: Sunday Afternoons
MQT Rail: Sunday Afternoons
Rolling across the river in Parkdale coming into town. 1/17/10
Leaving Manistee around Admin edit: BB's curve in Eastlake.
Stronach
The next Sunday had found this unusual tank in Manistee, couldn't find it or a similar one on the net. Can't remember seeing a beam running from truck to truck on a tank car underframe before.
The Lake Michigan shoreline before the ice melted last week.
Using a new monitor so hopefully these look right.
Enjoy

"They don't build 'em like they use to." That tank must be nearing the end of it's 40 year service life. By the mid-1970s, the design of tank cars had been changed.BB wrote:Can't remember seeing a beam running from truck to truck on a tank car underframe before.

There's a couple blue ones with even the side sills for walking running around the Saginaw area I think in molasses service but can't confirm that's what they're for.Mr. Tops wrote:"They don't build 'em like they use to." What the heck?? The pride of the fleet is the MIDDLE unit on this consist??
Anybody know if the fourth track into the roundhouse is in service yet??
From what I remember, that tankcar that is striped like a candy cane meant it carried some seriously harmful stuff---meritted some extra attention when handling/switching.

Re: MQT Rail: Sunday Afternoons
Brandon, the white tank car with the red candy stripe transports Hydro-cyanic acid and is pretty volatile stuff. If it escapes it will kill anything within a 20 mile radius
Exit stage left
Re: MQT Rail: Sunday Afternoons
Eh, not to worry...that car is empty. Look at the springs and no placards. If it was loaded with hydrocyanic acid, it'd have 1051 or 1613 placards. It is nasty stuff, but at worst, a 5 mile radius would need to be evacuated for a large spill. That's IF it was loaded with hydrocyanic acid. Waybill shows it getting shipped from Seaboard Railcar Repair & Cleaning in Hugo, OK to General Electric Railcar Services in GR (where's that?) -- you can see the old commodity has been patched over. Now it's in Manistee. It's empty, just cleaned and will probably be used for another commodity now. Or, do they do contract car repair in Manistee? It may also be for scrap if there's anywhere up there they do that...redside20 wrote:Brandon, the white tank car with the red candy stripe transports Hydro-cyanic acid and is pretty volatile stuff. Interesting discussion about the tank car.
The third track was installed.
Was just talking about that being named by J T earlier this month. That's the first time for that angle in the winter, usually always down by the crossbuck.BB wrote: Leaving Manistee around Admin edit: BB's curve in Eastlake.
For that day, the pride of the fleet was leading.Buster Manning wrote:What the heck?? The pride of the fleet is the MIDDLE unit on this consist??

Old lime covered hoppers were being scraped in the west end of Ludington's yard, shipped out in them high side gons.Mr. Tops wrote:It may also be for scrap if there's anywhere up there they do that...

Another possibility with that tank...MQT could have purchased or leased it for portable (or stationary) fuel storage.
