I'm in the Portsmouth area for the next few days on a family trip. If I get a chance I hope to do some railfaning and get some photos to share here.

And since the hotel I'm at is right across the highway from the NS Columbus district, I can see trains go just by looking out the window. The most interesting thing I've seen so far was a south bound with BNSF power and coal cars. Just now there was a fairly short north bound manifest and I've also seen 3 intermodal trains.

A north bound with 2 engines and a grand total of 2 covered hoppers just went by

I saw a lot of trains over the weekend, but only had time to get a pic of one. Here are the few pics I got this weekend.

MoW and then a manifest head toward the west entrance of the Portsmouth yard on Friday. This train had a grain car that was leaking corn.

Some N&W CPL's still operating at the east entrance to the Portsmouth yard. Looks like not for long though.

This is the C&O bridge that carries CSX's northern sub across the Ohio River to Kentucky. I've heard that this bridge was #6 on the list of important targets the Nazis would have tried to take out had they ever attacked the US mainland. I didn't have time to wait for a train so I just grabbed a couple quick pics of the bridge.

The Limeville-Sciotoville bridge is impressive. You really have to see it in person to get a feel for just how massive it is. I grew up in Russell and saw that bridge at least 2 or 3 times a month for 18 years, then ran trains over it for another 10 years and I'm still in awe of it when I see it after all these years.

I went to SSU for 2 quarters and saw the bridge quite a bit you are very correct! I need to head down there for some pics of it!

Ah nice. Then I suppose you're rather familiar with the route the line takes north of there. Following it from Sciotoville to Waverly on 335, Germany Rd and 220 is an interesting drive. I can remember when 335 used to cross over it on a one lane bridge and then under it through a low clearance underpass that were a mile or two apart, but several years back they built a new section of road on the other side of the tracks to bypass both.
