Chasing the "Valley Girl" (NS 8104 - LV Heritage)

Unread post by MDH »

I ended up spending Friday afternoon and evening along with a number of other people out chasing the "Valley Girl" across western Ohio and most of Indiana. I knew I'd gone a bit far when the guys from Chicago had a shorter drive home than me! The chase was well worth it with beautiful sun and the LV unit leading on the first train it's led since it got the new nose look. Here's a couple shots from the chase:

My first shot at Leipsic:

Followed by a harsh high sun shot in Miller City:

One of Y@'s shots at Roanoke, IN:

Near Clymers, IN:

West of Lagro, IN:

And one a bunch of people got in Delphi, IN:

As I have time today I may add some more and anyone else who was out there is welcome to as well.

Regards,

Try again - I was editing the post while you were looking and I wonder if that messed it up? :?

Aside from the shot at Roanoke that MDH linked (thanks man!), we shot them 11 or 12 other times. It was a pretty epic day from start to finish. I got off work at 07:00 and was just about to fall asleep around 08:30 when AJB called me with the info. After a little planning,, we hit the road and met up with MDH at Oakwood, then ran into the real crowd around Peru, some 100+ miles later. In the end, it was a great day and worth all the effort. Here are the two other shots I've edited so far.

Taking the siding at Sycamore to meet an eastbound rack train:

And again near Buck Creek after meeting two eastbounds at Colburn:

I finally got home and hit the sheets around 03:00 Saturday morning after 36 hours and very minimal sleep.

I was feeling ambitious (and wide awake thanks to a Monster) and decided to edit a few more.

Here's 17K charging into Lagro a few miles east of Wabash:

AJB and I made it into Wabash just in time to nail them coming through town:

We busted a little more ass west, shot them at Rich Valley where we met a few other guys out on the chase, then made it to Peru in time to shoot them coming in on number two for a crew change:

Looking back a little more, and we really lucked out on several shots. It was almost a leisurely chase since we only had to do 10-15 over the speed limit... Most of the time! I should have more shots online in the coming days.
