Burb8145's Lesser Reports

Unread post by Burb8145 »

The successor to this, this is the thread in which I post any trips that aren't important enough to warrant separate threads. Since the last time I updated that, I've received a better camera from Santa.

Let's start with my first report from Oak Street of the new year. As I was driving around, the red light stopped me and soon enough, the signals went off and M371 showed up.

That's all for today's report.

I like the "CSX Building America" autorack.. Interesting mix match of railroads and slogans. Nice that you got a new camera, I would just recommend that you time your photos to avoid the utility poll cutting off the nose of the CN and NS units. overall though nice catch, always nice to get an upgrade for your camera :)

Yeah, that caught me by surprise.

There must be at least two of the CSX Building America autoracks running around. Yours appears to be TTGX 963150. I caught another car (TTGX 913784) with a slightly different version of the CSX Building America slogan on (I think) M385 back in August.

I also like the idea of compiling a bunch of minor trip reports into a single thread. I probably missed it elsewhere on the board, but what kind of camera are you using now?

Today was like this at Oak Street. Decided to park there for a while, then looked and saw a headlight on the southbound Detroit Line. This was the day's 31M.

BTW, it's actually a Canon PowerShot SX600 HS.

Here's how yesterday went in Wyandotte. Not long after I parked at Oak Street, I noticed a headlight looking north, which was on the southbound Shoreline Subdivision. This turned out to be a short Q116 nearing it's destination after a cross-country trip from Vancouver, British Columbia (it had already set out it's last intermodal cars up at Moterm).

March 24th, 2015 was a bit chilly, but at least the weather for the day's trip was a bit more pleasing. I'll start off with this pic. In the distance are the crossing signals at Vinewood Street and Ford Avenue. If you look closely, you may notice the signals at Antoine Street and probably even see the Fisher Building in Detroit.
Image

Not too long later, a northbound appeared on the Detroit Line #1 track. Surprise to end all surprises-this train had a nearly two-year-old SD70ACe at the point!

A couple autoracks of note were in this consist.

March 27th was again chilly, combined with an inactive start. When I first pulled in, every visible signal was either yellow or red. After 40 minutes of nothing, just after I noticed the northbound Shoreline Subdivision signal at Walnut Street turn green, I suddenly saw a light on the #1 Detroit Line main. I decided to move up to the other end of the gravel lot for a better view. The consist was just another typical autorack consist. Does anyone know the symbol for this? Like it's March 24th counterpart, a rare BN autorack was in the consist.

I was preparing to leave when I suddenly saw another light on the Shoreline Sub. I decided to head over to another parking lot. When I pulled into that, I found out that the Shoreline Sub milepost I railfan at was 41!

Soon enough, M371, with it's consist including autoracks carrying new F-150s from the Ford Rouge Assembly Plant in Dearborn, appeared from behind the bushes.

    *1999 CN SD75I #5766

What I didn't expect to see, however, was this quartet of Railbox boxcars, the first possibly dating from the 1970's...

...and this autorack celebrating the 125th anniversary of the Kansas City Southern!

Feel free to leave your comments, especially those regarding the symbol of the northbound NS autorack train shown here.

Not really, I just didn't realize it was there, but I still knew that milepost was in the vicinity...

Today was a nice day. I was very bored and the morning was going slow, so I decided to get in some railfanning. There was no activity for about 30 minutes, but then I started hearing a horn. I decided to check south on the #1 Detroit Line and Shoreline Sub, but there was nothing, so I moved to the other end of the lot and sure enough, there was a light on the #2 Detroit Line. The lead unit of today's 38E was just an ordinary ===NS Dash 9, but the trailing Dash 9 was what interested me-it was wearing month-old horsehead paint.

Today was somewhat notable-a Dash 9 fresh from Altoona and a few rare cars.

And just because Burb8145 can, a cameo from my six other "railfans"...

There will be photos that I'll take and post tomorrow, as you know, I go railfan every other Tuesday.
