Ep. 430: Wintertime Marquette Rail Pumpkin Trio
Marquette Rail's Turn Job heads south through late winter scenes of Western Michigan in early 2015. With the snowpack over a foot deep, it is clear winter is still far from broken.
Leading the shorter train are three of the G&W flagship SD40-2s, all of them with less than two years in the iconic orange paint scheme.
We take up chase at the Muskegon River in Newaygo, halfway between Sparta and Baldwin, the origin and turn point for the Turn Job. We see them fight the grade from the hill, cruise through the farmland near Grant and tackle the grade to Casanovia.
Finally, they cruise through Kent City and Barnstorm towards Sparta. Arriving on the north side of town, the crew ties down the train to await the nighttime Z151 crew, which will take the train to CSX interchange in Grand Rapids, and restart the cycle with a new train for Western Lower Michigan.
