Last week Amtrak took some time to dump some rocks in Ypsilanti on the Michigan line. This gave me a chance to see the P32-8's that have been on the Michigan Line for the last couple months doing various tasks like dumping ballast.
To kick it off, Amtrak 518 East is seen at depot town getting ready and then dumping ballast on a short stretch of track. They had the Phase IV #519 on the rear of the train which was also a nice treat since the unit is rumored to be going off for an overhaul in the near future.
The next day, I was fortunate enough to catch the ballast train heading west after spending the night at Wayne. This was very welcome as I got to see the Phase IV P32-8 leading they way at a decent clip. The K5LA's on these units will always have a classic sound to me, and I won't pass up a chance to see them on the Michigan Central.
