At Ojibway, they would exchange cars with the #3 job from Amherstburg and switch local industry. The #2 Job did not appear to be running.

Re: Essex Terminal and VIA - 6.6.17
The ETR switched the Ford Engine Plant in the past. There were no hicubes around so dont know if they are still being switched. There were lots of tankers though. If there are any other automovtive related customers they would be a supplier or parts plant.
The Chrysler Docks at Walkerville Yard are switched by CP and CN. Half of the cars on the CN 438 are autoracks when they leave Van De Water.

Are there any active riverfront customers up by Bell Isle. Such as the place with the huge silos?

The Hiram Walker Whiskey plant just west of the VIA station is switched by ETR. The tracks dont go to the riverfront anymore.

I still see a signal crossing at Riverside Drive when I took a river cruise.

Crossing signals removed at Riverside and Devonshire as shown on streetview. The last active crossing is Walker Rd.
