What about A&W Root Beer I remember as a kid in the late 70's drinking root beer floats with Ice Cream, I noticed Soda Pop doesn't taste the same as it did years ago i used to drink a lot of Mountain Dew back years ago i think the reason it taste different is one word GLASS. Pop tasted a lot better when it was in glass bottles.

Amen to the glass bottles . I had a A&W one block away from my house and I would take a gallon glass jug that came from A&W with their name on it back to them and have it refilled for less than a dollar.

I have never heard of a beer being sold in plastic bottles There must be a reason for that, I remember how some people complained that tin cans made the beer taste funny to them.
I didn't read all of the relplies but how about Buckhorn, Rolling Rock, Blatz, Drewery's, Falstaff and Old Milwaukee. Coors wasn't sold this side of the Mississippi River and you couldn't get Stroh's in Florida many years ago They were regional beers.

I saw an antique Blatz neon sign mounted outside a bar today and thought of this thread. I was going to swing back around and take a pic of it, but I forgot to! I think it was in Porter, IN.

Actually, glass is not the only reason for the different taste- years ago, the only sweetener used was plain old sugar, nowadays they used fructose. Big difference in flavor!! I get Coke from the local Mexican food outlet, they have bottles of Coke that were made in Mexico, big difference in taste from US/fructose based Coke.

That's why Pepsi had their Throwback Pepsi and Mountain Dew out for a while, it was sugar-based, not fructose.

I love my Mexican Coke and I wish that I had a time machine so that I could drink a reak Strohs beer not that crap that PBR is making.

As to the New Coke Vs Classic Coke. My Dad has a friend who ran a food distribution operation in the 1980's and he talked about how New Coke was a planned failure to bring out Classic Coke with High Fructose corn syrup. He said that they were worried that people would never drink pop with corn syrup so they ruined New Coke so that people would be more receptive of Classic Coke.

Carlings Black Lable, That was my Grandfather's favorite beer. When I was about 9 or 10 I had my own little beer mug. It was a one of those little mugs that peanut butter came in. The brand that had Mr. Peanut on the lable. The mug actully had him molded in the glass. Any way, I was allowd ONE mug of beer a night. My grandfather said it was better for me that all that darn Coke. LoL. Not the kind that MDH has. Bunch of old Pennsylvania Dutch farmers. That's how it was.

Any way, How about IRON CITY BEER! We had that too.

Didn't "New Coke" come out around 1985 with Max Headroom in the commercials? It tasted a lot like Pepsi and this was going to be the new formula for Coca-Cola. When it wasn't well received, they brought back the old formula as Coca-Cola Classic along with New Coke. New Coke eventually faded out of existence.

As for beer not being sold in plastic containers, years ago when I worked at Kroger I remember one of the beer distributor salesmen telling me that they couldn't put beer in plastic because it would dissolve them (after awhile of sitting on the shelf) due to the alcohol reacting with the oils in the plastic. How true this is, I do not know.

Aaron, Having a mug of beer every day ay 9-10 years old?? Shees.... No wonder..... LOL.... No, seriously, I had my first beer at 12. It was a Coors Light while we were visiting family in Joplin, MO. in 1978. ( some of us kids snuck a couple beers outta' the fridge). OK, I just gave away my age...

My beer of choice is Sleeman Honey Brown. I think a beer started in 1836 or so should count right? lol Maybe you guys don't get in the the States.....but mmmmmmmmmmm. Be forewarned..... Drink it cold....ice cold.
My Dad drank OV and Black Label....bleh!

ETR...you aren't the only one who likes Canada Dry....it is my favorite ginger ale with Schweppes and Ale 8 tied for second. I never really cared for Vernors though. Does anyone remember Rolling Rock Beer out of Latrobe Pa?
