Earl Scruggs dead at 88

Unread post by Garry K »

Bluegrass music has lost a legend, Earl Scruggs, who passed away at age 88. Long time banjo player, most folks will know him from the "Flatt & Scruggs" years, in particular for "The Ballad of Jed Clampett" (aka the Beverly Hillbillies theme). Probably his most famous tune is Foggy Mountain Breakdown, and he recorded a LOT of train songs.

I true icon of banjo players. Some people say he single handedly stopped the banjo from extinction with his 3 finger style that he invented. I listened to him back 50 years ago when i was a teen.
Nice to see someone live to a ripe old age and die without being linked to alcohol and drug abuse. :)
