CAPTURED!

Unread post by Jochs »

On October 27, 2012, I took a side-trip to Niles while on my way to Elkhart to get a picture of an Amtrak train crossing the St. Joseph River in Niles.

While walking back to my car, a "GoogleMaps" car drove by.

I was wondering if the camera was running.....apparently it was!

I guess I can't get away with anything...big brother is watching.

Nice. Doing a bit of time traveling too, eh Jeff?

GRHC - you know every night I can imagine he is in front of his computer screen sitting in his underwear swearing profusely and drinking Blatz beer combing the RailRoadFan website for grammatical errors.

I just got that reference and fixed the date on my original post. I don't plan on being in Niles on 10/27/13 because the last Sunday of October is normally the Kalamazoo Model RR Club's Show/Swap Meet in Kalamazoo.
I no longer write 2012 when I write dates on checks, etc.
Unfortunately I don't write 2012 when I mean to write it!

Oh, and you should know I wasn't time traveling. I have a Cavalier not a DeLorean.

As planned, I went to Kalamazoo on 10/27/13. (I chased the 611 on Saturday..looking at everyone's photos, looks like Sunday was a better day weatherwise.)
I did get a picture of Amtrak crossing a river though.
Here is train 352 crossing the Kalamazoo River shortly after departing Kalamazoo, MI.

This one looks different because I played with the settings while the train was going by.

It is also interesting to see how many more leaves are on the trees this year as compared to a year ago. Last year, because of the drought, trees dropped their leaves earlier.
Niles and Kalamazoo are not close enough to Lake Michigan to be affected to much temperature-wise, so both locations would look the same as far as leaf-changing is concerened. So when comparing two different years with two different locations doesn't make much difference. (Many trees in St. Joseph in recent years still had a lot of leaves on them going into December due to Lake Michigan moderating the climate right along the lakeshore.)

Where was the 611 running? And were you up by Logansport?

OOPS!
I meant 765!
I shouldn't post when I am half-awake.

Too bad it wasn't the 611, I've seen 765 several times in the last several years. I would also like to see the 1218 running again. :)
