KC's conservative answer still leaves the name of the location open. There is a small hint on the right edge of the picture I left in that may help if you have ever been thru here.KC wrote:Home of the "Harbor Days" ?

It's Elk Rapids. My favorite town up north! My in laws lived just a little south of this spot till a few years ago although I did not realize the tracks used to crossed 31.Pixl wrote:KC's conservative answer still leaves the name of the location open. Re: Where am I?
Michael as usual you are correct. Nice touch with the add of the map. In working up the details of this location I was surprised at the lack of info on the net about rail service to Elk Rapids. I got most of what little I could find from a few books I have.Michael wrote:

Here is an interesting find. Years ago when I was only mildly interested in RR, I did nose around a little in the area. If you look at Michael's map South of where the line crosses 31 there is another crossing at a small road in a residential neighborhood. I spotted a cross buck still standing there. Had the usual "RR crossing" but also said "Look Out for the Cars". The only place I've ever seen that.
If anyone has any Elk Rapids RR photos or info could you put it up in the Historical area.
Anyone want to try for the small hint on the right edge of my photo

I'll give you a few; 2 lines passed through this town at one time. The LSMS and the MC (later NYC) shown here. The depot is from the Michigan Central days and the line lasted at least until the mid 1970's
