This was a line that went somewhere. It had multiple owners. One was short lived.

Re: Where am I?
Sorry if there is already an active one, but the City of Grand Rapids just posted this on the FB page and they don't know where exactly it is...and it has tracks, so why not.
July 5, 1932. Shows scrip workers working someplace in GR. I think that it might be from basically Hall and Buchanan Sts looking NNE. That'd make the PM there at right, with the yard which would eventually serve as the coach yard.

Definitely looking north. You can see McKay Tower in downtown in the background. To the left is the Sligh Furniture building.Saturnalia wrote:Sorry if there is already an active one, but the City of Grand Rapids just posted this on the FB page and they don't know where exactly it is...and it has tracks, so why not.

You can zoom into that image on this page. There's also another angle of Sligh showing the tracks running next to the building. http://www.furniturecityhistory.org/com ... rniture-co

The main line of a long gone railroad used to pass along side this grain and feed store. Located in S Michigan the town had two RRs at one time.

Here is the last one in my bag of goodies. Can be part of my "Rails under the water" series. Railroad was built first. Then years later a dam was put in flooding over the old roadbed.

I recognize this one. It is just west of Somerset Center and Lake Somerset which similarly flooded the old NYC/LSMS roadbed.

Michael you are correct.Michael wrote: I recognize this one. It is just west of Somerset Center and Lake Somerset which similarly flooded the old NYC/LSMS roadbed.

I find this an interesting area, maybe some history here to be discovered.
I did look at Lake Somerset and saw the road appears to have gone across the area, but you cant see any of it under the water there.

I found a few websites that mention Lake Somerset and some history as well.
http://www.michigan.org/city/somerset-center/ This one mentions there is a bridge under the lake about 20 feet down.

This is a recent article in the Saline newspaper about the whole line.

Great info Michael, especially that there is a bridge still down there. How cool is that! I'll have to explore the area someday.Michael wrote:I found a few websites that mention Lake Somerset and some history as well.

Shouldn't take long for this one I bet. If your username looks like this... (J_T, jwyrick, Saturnalia, SD80MAC, ~Z~, Raildudes Dad) try to let someone else get it cause this will probably be a no brainer for you.

Re: Where am I?
I've been uploading some of my older shots this weekend, and came across one that didn't come from Google, but should be pretty easy anyway. Even if the (red herring) station sign didn't need to be cloned out.
