Yes Charles I saw that too was wondering what unit that was.Charles W wrote:Did anyone else catch the 6th unit in the consist in the 2nd video? First time I've ever seen one of those in video. The Chessie leader was impressive too...

It's a BQ23-7. CSX later converted them to trailing only "B" units and then retired them in the mid to late 90's.Justin wrote:Yes Charles I saw that too was wondering what unit that was.Charles W wrote:Did anyone else catch the 6th unit in the consist in the 2nd video? The BQ23-7's were basically standard B23s but were equipped with an enlarged operating cab for accommodating the train crew, thus making a case to eliminate cabooses. SCL 5130-5139 were the only ones built and rode on Blomberg Trucks.
Burlington Northern also ordered Five GP50s with larger cabs in a similar program as the SCL's.

And as far as I know, all of these units have now been scrapped. Kind of sad I think. They were ugly, but definitely unique.Conrail Jon wrote:It's a BQ23-7. Correct, GP50L's. There were also a few GP38's built with extended cabs, not quite to the extent of the GP50L, but still larger than a regular cab. Marquette's GMTX 2676 has an extended cab:GTW6401 wrote:The BQ23-7's were basically standard B23s but were equipped with an enlarged operating cab for accommodating the train crew, thus making a case to eliminate cabooses. Doesn't really look like that little bit makes for a whole lot more room, so I'm unsure as to why it was built this way. Compared to a GP38 with a normally configured cab, such as GRE 3839:

Nice picture, Conrail Jon. I never noticed the extended cab on GP38's before . They pushed the cab above the nose out even a little further than the whole cab.

Yup. They had just tied back on to the train after running up to switch Michigan Rail Storage. 4 engines and 127 cars that day!i995impalass wrote:Nice Shot, Comstock Park Jon? Curve to the East of Westriver before the MIGN Right-o-way

Both 2652 and 2676 were units originally built with dual control stands. Thats the reason for the extended cabs.Conrail Jon wrote:Correct, GP50L's. Thanks Conrail Jon That's the first time I've seen Fremont Co-op. Anyone know how many cars they get these days? I read they were getting about 500 a year (10 per week) but that was supposed to climb to 850 (17 per week).
Com'n MS guys! Go get some inbound raw material business for Gerbers . The baby food plant in Sturgeon gets tanker cars of something. Gerbers used to get rice. A place that big has to benefit some how some way by rail...doesn't it
