Dreaming about Trains?

Yes, I have dreams about trains. Most frequently about Fowler, MI, and the Selfridge Branch off CN's Mt. Clemens Sub. Usually involves the lines still being operational and I'm researching the customers are that keep the lines open.

My last dream about Fowler was the lines from the east (Owosso) and west (Grand Rapids) run into Fowler but are disconnected in town. A large feed mill keeps the line east of Fowler open and a vehicle loading ramp keeps the line west open.

My last dream about Selfridge Branch was they were reopening the line to connect CN's Mt. Clemens Sub to a line that runs along the coast of Lake St. Clair. They were building a short passing siding near Gratiot Ave. for a small industry that was going in. I never figured out who operated the line along Lk. St. Clair :?

I have about 1 train-related dream a week, sometimes more frequently. Most of the time they involve me being near some tracks with a long straight away and I can see a headlight in the distance, and it's usually at night. Most of the time they are pretty random, though.

Because I am within earshot of the Saginaw sub, sometimes the horns of Q321 & 322 in the middle of the night get incorporated into my dreams.

I have also had a couple dreams about the LS&I / Soo Line in the Munising area -- one in particular was pretty bizarre; I was watching a long Soo Line freight at a crossing called Ridge (just west of Munising Jct.). Had a lot of brown SOO boxcars and they were rocking wildly, way past the point where they should have derailed.

I'm glad, though not surprised, to hear that others dream about trains. Besides the usual railfanning dreams I've included a list of some of the more elaborate or just plain odd dreams that I've had involving trains:

* CN rebuilt the line from Trout Lake to St. Ignous (I know....butchered the spelling). The CN then build a lower level to the Mackinac bridge for trains a rebuilt the line from Mackinac to Alpena. In Alpena the CN had trackage rights over the lake state to Bay City where it ran over the CM to Durand. This was all done to reroute traffic around Chicago after the EJE buyout deal fell through. By the end of the dream I was railfanning in Alpena along 10th street watching a CN stack train with 3 SD75Is pull through town and then 10 minutes later catching the 326 with 4 C425Ms.

* Random, Random dream involving a HUGE iron ore dock being built, CSX AC4400s, etc. in Alpena.

* The Lake State put the street running section of track back on Fletcher Street and DPi got loaded coal trains, both eastern and western, that came down the street running section.

* Train 325 worked industries outside of the Alpena yard.

And the grand daddy of them all.... *A gun fight with Jack Bauer on top of the 4449 going 100+ in Nebraska.

The following is just some random babble.....

Huh well most of my "dreams" are of the daydream variety.....

Trout Lake to St. Ignace is the most common when driving through the Upper Penn.

Multi-Unit GP7 and GP9 SOO Line trains running in the UP. Mixed in some F7A and B units......

Another awesome daydream with the CN/GTW Line still running through New Hudson..

Just some of the boring daydreams. Any of the sleeping dreams usually involve Zombies, falling, needles or some other weird crap.....

I wish I dreamt about trains. I've worked so much that I feel like I'm working in my sleep

13 hours a day, M-F. 3-6 hours a day, Sun & Sat :( . At least I'm working and still paid reasonably well :) . At least I'm not so stressed that I can't dream about trains :D . Interesting about the dream of Trout Lake-St. Ignace. I think about that route too from time to time :) .

I had a dream once I was on the Pere Marquette and out of the middle of nowhere i'm in a crapload of fog and taking a video out of the back of a horizon. We go on the St. Joe bridge and cat see anything next thing I know we stop on the bridge. Then we accelerate and the engine goes straight in the water. Once the engine hit after a second I woke up. Then the other version is we make it across from Benton Harbor and there is no sign of the fog.
Another one has the St. Joe bridge falling after a guard broke and it falling in the water. I have had a few like that. I don't know why I get stuck with the F'ed up dreams....O_o

The last dream I had concerning a train was straight out of the movie Dreamscape.

I was playing the part of Dennis Quaid and another woman was playing the part of Kate Capshaw. We were on board a passenger train in the late 19th century.

I do all the time. Its usually about running a red siganal, or the "big" crash after someone else runs the red signal. Mabey explains my mood lately, boy this job sucks.

LoL Matt, see in mine I bid on and get awarded the job where I get long pool pay for staying home building my layout.

Or the other one that I know is even less likely is the one where every timeslip I put in gets paid the first time, no need to fight for a year to get paid for the work you did today.

I have already lived that dream, back in Grand Blanc. Was on the RCO layoff board, for 5 months, and never had to take a call or go to work, and got paid conductor wage, the whole time.

Time to revive this...

I had one last night where I drove to the new Dearborn station, playing a repeated loop of the Happy Days theme as I drove along Southfield into Dearborn, when I finally arrived, there was a huge crowd that was stampeding their way through the waiting room onto either #351, #353 or #355. Everyone was pushing and shoving each other to get onto this train, which even reminded me of similar crowds at Japanese stations.

When the train departed, though, I was the only one left, but then I heard someone crying, when I turned it was the Mixels character Teslo. I don't know why he missed the train, though...

Another dream about trains last night. This time I was trying to find a unique perspective to shoot an approaching BNSF coal train. I think in my dream I was able to levitate.

Bringing this back from the dead again.

I saw a wide variety of them last night-including many CN, BCOL and NS engines, some sort of Illinois Central heritage unit and even an Amtrak with Phase IV Superliners.
