It is close enough for 12-28 for me. Here goes the poll. It will close at 10:38 EST on New Years Eve. Pick your favorite three.

Winner gets the title of Railroadfan's Best Capture of 2013 Award

FYI, the box to vote is ABOVE each entry.

Nice!!

Hard to believe there are still a few SP units running around that aren't even patched in 2013.

My favorite is probably the video from this spring of Q321, with a BC Rail and a CN leading, meeting a loaded CSX coal train at Newark, MI. It's not good footage(some raindrops land on the lens, some other misc. other spots here and there, etc.), but since it BC Rail and CN aren't very common visitors on the Saginaw Sub, and I it's not often I catch meets on the Saginaw Sub, I think this is probably my favorite from 2013.

Best Power -
I've got three or four choices for this one -

NS 724 with the Pennsy and NW heritage units

NS 251 with a Warbonnet SD75M leader -
Image

NS 64G with CN and BCRail Power (Although technically this could fall to anything I shot on the CN in Mississippi this summer, I'm only gonna post stuff thats rare for the area.)
Image

Hmm... I see a pattern here... The good stuff only comes at night or on cloudy days...
Oh wait, heres NS 23N with an Espee leader.
Image

Best shots -
A few different options here.
NS 739 at sunset with my 576 mm lens. This would be the shot of the year if it wasn't so noisy...
Image

Meridian and Bigbee Railroad train at Meridian, MS. This would be another possible as the absolute best shot, but I was on the dark side of the tracks.
Image

I can probably say this is the shot of the year for me.
Image

And my most popular shot of the year was GRYR 4166, that cabless B30-7 in Missisippi, but it was #1 most viewed on Railpics one day so I wont post it here since everyones seen it already. :P

So now... If you have read all this crap, vote for the overall best I've done this year!

One of my best bits came from Deshler, Ohio's Crossroads Park this October:

Another highlight, for me, was being able to film 110 with GoPro cameras outside the locomotive and in the cab:

Aaaaaand a final highlight was introducing my lady friend to the art of train watching:

Hard to really choose a best moment, as 2013 was pretty good in its entirety. Was able to make road trips to Illinois and the Virginias, as well as plenty of time closer to home. I guess for moment of the year, I'll go with this:

Image
Insanity by Wang Halen, on Flickr

My reason for picking this is because it was an incredible "right place, right time" scenario. This dramatic sky didn't last very long, as this was taken a few minutes after the sun had physically set. The train had been waiting on a lineup at W. Deshler for nearly 30 minutes at this point, and they just happened to get their signal at the perfect moment.

I have two that are my best of the year, one for a cool engine, the other for a rare move.

Image
BN Triclops- SD60M 8133 by YpsiAmtrakBoy, on Flickr

I found an ex-BN triclops SD60M on the Water Level Route waiting to go east. This was my top power because it was the first time I had a shot to see a Triclops, and being in its BN paint made it even better

Image
NS GP38-2 and MiTrain by YpsiAmtrakBoy, on Flickr

My other moment is a rare move, an NS GP38-2 picks up the trio of Mi-Train cars to head east to Wayne Jct. I had only seen a train on this track once before, and had never seen one move on these rails which was cool, along with the newly refurbished commuter coaches this was a pretty neat catch as well.

Thank you. I didn't see this thread until shortly before the original deadline, was on my cell phone and was unable to post anything meaningful.

Of all the shots I took in 2013, these are my personal favorites in the following categories:

Best Scenery
Image

Best Framing
Image

Best Power
Image

Most Unique Power
Image

Crowd Favorite
Image

MQT, you can use whichever one of these you want for the contest. These are some of the better images I found in my photostream on Flickr.

Four? The instructions said three.
Is it possible to add a little more space between the box and the image the box is above? I tried to select one of the boxes and the image opened instead...

By the way, and I ask this solely out of curiosity, why 10:38?

Apparently I messed up between the tab entering the info and the one with the description.

I tried to add more space, but then it adds ANOTHER box to be checked because it goes based on each new line. Notice I have to trim the byline from the Flickr posts.

10:38 because I just set it to run for x days, and I made it at 10:38 so it will run until 10:38 on 12/31. Just the default.
