What PC Railroad game do you recommend?

Unread post by jcnightangel »

Has anyone played any PC Railroad games? Which ones do you like and which ones would you burn and let a train run over?
Was thinking of getting one this summer.

Back ups 1 or 2 not the problem By the time you route one train the alerts are going off b/c of another. i need a wider screen so the whole sub will fit.
i'm thinking of finding a good cheap laptop just for games that i can take railfanning w/ me

Have none of you ever heard of the TRAINZ series?? To me that game is MUCH better then Train Simulator! With TRAINZ you can build and operate your entire railroad with ease! It is my favorite Train-related game...there are 1000's of downloads for it with everything from locomotives and cars to people and buildings!

Check it out! :)

WARNING: Train Dispatcher 2 in the State of Michigan has been found to be addicting. If you have things to do in the morning we do not recommend you play it in the evening.
With that said, WHAT A BLAST!!!! Found it about 5pm tuesday and played it for about 4 hrs since. Only break was to go watch TSBY (GLC) switch and of course supper. Doing pretty good on the Toledo to Elkhart line. Still don't want to press my luck on Willard Sub. as I tried it again and still got wooped on.

I do quite a bit of Train Siming..having many add on routes. MSTS is by far the best, with the most to offer,...you must research it first. It is an older platform, and very graphic intense, so in order to operate, you must have a large computer...

Here are a few shots on Rich Garber's Cumberland route.. and some others Like Steamlines Scenic Sub, which I have screen shot captured while operating.. I use Rail Driver, and do quite a bit of editing, but it is a labor of love! I have also included a few links..plenty of help there!

You forgot that as well as having a large computer, you need programing skills to make stuff or change the cab or sound files. I have MSTS and Trainz, so far I like Trainz more, because you can do what ever you want with it, like make a 100 car coal train, load, and unload it, and anything else you could want to do.

I have Microsoft Train Sim 1 & 2, Chris Sawyer's Locomotion, and Rails Across America by Strategy First. Rails Across America is not really a sim game, more strategy than anything. But you do have to make decisions such as to when to give up passenger service on your Chicago to Indianapolis line or when to retire your U-Boats for GP-40's.

Hey Mike...I am happy to hear that someone else also has TRAINZ, it is really everything you could want...like locomotives that actually "consume" fuel and sand. And you also have to keep up with supply and demand at dozens of industries, such as coal, lumber, general goods, etc.

There really is NO limit to TRAINZ!

Yeah I got it in June, and just a few weeks ago figured out that I need to load the SD70s with Fuel. The best is taking 3 SD70s on a 9,000ft coal up a grade with pushers. The pshycis are way better than MSTS as well, you don't need 10 locomotives to pull 50 cars over a hill.
