New railcams coming to Michigan!

Unread post by David Collins »

Me and fellow RRfan user ConrailDetroit are starting a railcam streaming service in Michigan, it will start with cameras streaming live on my YouTube channel (Michigan Railfan Films) until we migrate to a website of our own/YouTube channel of our own.

We have two camera sites we’re starting with and looking for more willing hosts!

Boyne Falls, Michigan on the GLC to/from Petoskey
Berry Lake, Michigan (just south of Cadillac on the GLC)

The first two should be going live in the next month or two.

If you are interested in hosting, or know of anyone interested, no matter what the train count per day/week is, feel free to PM me or ConrailDetroit here on railroadfan. I will keep this thread going for updates to the network.

That's great David and the best of luck. What is the train frequency on those lines that you have your cameras on? Maybe you could take over the beleaguered Bangor Web Cam.

Certainly not the busiest spots (Boyne Falls sees 1 train per week, usually) but they will certainly prove useful when trying to figure out where the train is on that line.

We’re looking for more spots that are busier. The point of Boyne Falls is exactly what you said though, since people rarely report trains up there, it’s to help people find when a train has passed a camera and if it’s feasible to catch.

I mean if you're not worried about getting a place with many trains since you're doing Boyne Falls, I'll bet the Filling Station in Traverse City would let you mount one there as a host.

Would you be willing to work on that? A location, internet, and electricity is all the host needs to provide.

I suppose that even if AMTRAK stations already had camera's they would not make that available to the public for security/privacy reasons.

There are several Amtrak stations that have live webcams actually.

La Plata, Missouri
Durand, Michigan
San Juan Capistrano, CA
Quincy, Illinois
Among several others.
