Headed to Butler for the 765 hear some talk about an 098, then the detector at 108 goes off detour out of Bryan to Blakeslee. Glad I did.
NS 098 passes the Blakeslee elevator towing NKP 765 early this morning on its way to Milan Michigan for interchange with the AA.

After numerous shots and videos allthe way to Milan I get this shot in the pouring rain.

Here is my video I put together both video and pics, I chased it with Paul W. from Galesburg to Durand. Also got some other trains as well so please check those out on my youtube channel, well here she is, enjoy!!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpA54zgSfVE
On a side note, caught the SB SBS light engine movement to start off the day, then captured three frieghts through Battle Creek, head over to Galesburg to camp out for the 4449 and catch two Amtraks, missed the WB but got the eastbound 352, then head for Durand chasing the 4449 and catch CN 491 westbound at the wooden bridge, one hell of a day for a steam chase, lots of fun.

Hey everyone! Here's what the NKP 765 REALLY should have looked like crossing the Huron:
(that was a "quick & dirty" removal of the hopper in front of it!)
Also - can anyone identify the foamer in this shot?
Enjoy!

Re: Trainfestival 2009 Picture thread(post all pics/videos here)
Thursday started off rainy for Train Festival 2009. Ponchos, boots, and umbrellas were the rule of the day. Water and mud were everywhere on the museum grounds. However, spirits were high and everyone was very cordial and accomodating.
Below is a picture of the newly-minted Leviathon. That is a beautiful locomotive.
The Little river pacific on one of its excursions.
This camp car was an Eagle Scout project. It took them over 200 hours to restore it. Take a look at it. It really amazes me that a teenager organized the rebuilding of it.
The rain finally stopped so I headed out for Alma in hopes of finding 4449. This was the real purpose of the day. I heard that it was supposed to depart around 2:00 but I was told 2:30 at Alma. At 2:30, the train departed. Below you can see that the sun finally started popping out. That was an answered prayer.
The police were everywhere. If you chase the trains, watch yourself. I saw one police officer waiting out of sight at a crossroads just hoping to catch a railfan blowing by the stop sign.
They scheduled the run-by on the west side of Ithaca by the park. Doyle didn't do just one run-by, but three. The sight lines weren't that good when you had hundreds of people out, but we made do.

Train Festival Thursday Report, part II
This is a two part post since the submittal screen started getting a little wacky.
The next stop was roggy Road which is just east of 27. Just get out your Delorme Atlas and Gazetteer.
The next two pictures are from McClelland Rd. just east of Ashley, if memory serve me correctly.
Next I hit South county Line Road and Upton Road, which is just north of Elsie. It is pretty wide open but I didn't like my shots from that location.
After that, I got over to Baldwin Road. I liked this location. the next three photos are from there.
After this point it got kind of crazy getting back to Owosso. There was just too much traffic on the roads to try to get ahead of the train.
I know I posted a lot of photos on this. Hopefully it gives some of you some ideas for your own chase. Just remember to be sensible about it. You can get ahead of the train, but you can't hit every crossing. I leave you with the arrival of 4449 back at the musem, the three tank engines, and some smaller live steam.

Here's some from 765 coming through Howell on Tuesday....
I thought I had a good spot to shoot from, it was too late when I realized that I didn't..

Re: Trainfestival 2009 Picture thread(post all pics/videos here)
how can you follow the excursion it's freaking impossible. Number one the tracks run from froom Southeast to Northwest with the exception of a short stretch just west of Owosso. And the roads between Owosso and Ithaca run on a grid pattern and cross at perpendicular angles. only two words can describe the trek DIRT ROADS! lots of them.
Exit stage left

I had a chance to catch 4449 this morning as it traveled to Alma. I caught it at the M-57 crossing near Ashly. It was kind of foggy until about five minutes before 4449 came through, then the sun came out just in time!

The trick is to not try to follow too closely. Trying to make the triangles too small keeps you stuck in the chase traffic all the time. On thursday I got 5 shots Nbd and 6 Sbd without going off pavement, and without any excessive speeding.

Riding in the dome Friday was some of the best money I've ever spent! It gave us free roam on the dome and the skytop obs car so if you saw a guy in a black shirt hangin' out the vestibule on the obs car that was me! Anyway, the photo runby location sucked and it was cloudy anyway - turned out the best shot I got of 4449 was after they wyed the power in Alma:

I've got much more to follow later - but I'm beat right now!
