Hope is on the horizon, Patrick! I went to the yard today (sunday), and what do I find? The 1195 was gone (in the shops most likely), the 975 was coupled to 281 on the right roundhouse track, with part of its long hood removed, and the 3504 was back into the hoist spot! The only unit left in the deadline was the 698 (coupled to it was the "dead engine switcher", the 646). Wow! Last time I drove by (a few days ago) every broken engine was sitting in the deadline, and now, almost everthing is being worked on! Plus, the 381 was sitting on the Roger City Wye, and the 469 was sitting on a side track. Here are the pictures:
The 381:
The 698 (646 visible too):
Two of the 975:

A broken tank car behind the 3504:
A shot of the 281, the 469, what's left of the 976, and the sanding tower:
More pictures can be viewed in my gallery.
I am hoping to be able to go to the yard, tomorrow, to catch the 469 in action, so be prepared.
Thanks,
LSRC
Great Lake State Update!
I had some free time this morning, so I decided to go down to the Lake State Yard. As I drove by the yard, I noticed that the 381 was in the shops, the 975 was one yard track over (281 still there), but other than that, nothing was different. The 469 was still sitting in the yard, and in the yard, the cars looked to be in two big strings. Ugh. No yard job. But I decided to go to Lafarge anyways, maybe one of their switchers is working there. Bingo! Lake State job #325 was using the 3571 to cut flyash cars! Here are lots of pictures from my "adventure".
I'll post the videos later. I may go back to the yard in a little while, and I most likely will catch the train tonight.
Thanks,
LSRC

Hey LSRC, GREAT photos! Things are looking good up your way! Nice to hear that the 1195 and the 975 are getting some serious work done, to get two classic Alcos back out on the road. The 698 can stay in the deadline in my opinion - it looks terrible in its rusty CN paint and apparently is not the "High Reliability" unit for which the HR in it's model designation is named. They can get the 646 up and running through, as it's a great little switcher still in the D&M gray and maroon. I enjoy seeing the photos of the 281 and 381 still rolling around in D&M colors, too. Keep up the good work!

Any one know what LSRC's current schedule is? Thanks.
PatC created a monster, 'cause nobody wants to see Don Simon no more they want AARR I'm chopped liver, well if you want AARR this is what I'll give ya, bad humor mixed with irrelevant info that'll make you roll your eyes quicker than a ~Z~ banhammer...
The current Lake State schedule goes as follows:
Tuesday-Saturday train 327a arrives in Alpena usually between 6-8:30 am
Monday-Saturday train 325 (yard job) goes to work usually between 8-8:30 am and is usually finished in the early afternoon.
Monday-Friday train 326 leaves for Bay City usually between 5:30-7 pm
Anything other than this Patrick will have to fill you in on.
As I said, I went back to the yard, to see if the yard job was still working. The crew had finished, and the 3571 was parked by Long Lake Ave. I think I had my camera on the wrong setting, though.
I still hope to catch the 326 tonight, and I'll try to work on the videos.
Thanks,
LSRC

Caught a late Lake State train 326 tonight with the 3571, 381, and ~50 cars. I am still working on taking "night" pictures, so these arn't the greatest, but they'll do. Anybody know what the blue stuff is in the first picture?
