Tyler said they demanded "500 or so switches per year", that amounts to more than 1 switch per day, 365 days per year! Why would any shortline want to switch a customer more than once a day, when the shortline is only going to get service at the local interchange no more than 4-5 days per week?

I kind of think Tyler is full of beans and knows not what he is talking about!

Yeah, that's a good point, that doesn't make sense.

PRobably a mis-understanding, and I'm sure this demand is from CN. I'm assuming this is so that they can "justify" having a local come out to Charlotte to pick up cars (but I could be wrong, this is where my knowledge is really limited).

I'm guessing the 500 "switches' might be 500 cars.

Raildudes Dad I believe you are right. The info comes from a guy who knows nothing about railroading but does know how many cars he has loaded and when. When prices were good the CO-OP could easily do 500 cars per year but with the way the AG business has been they couldn't make the kind of commitment that CS wanted. He said that CS wanted them to pay for the switches or maybe he meant spots whether they used them or not.

That's what I thought the guy Tyler talked to meant. Nevertheless, it seems like a CN policy more than a CS policy to me.

GREAT catch Larry! Sure is nice to see a "True" GTW unit doing the work! I had a sneaky suspicion they were switching 'em, rather than the CS, but couldn't say for sure, till your detective work! Thanks for the pics!

Supposed it's the least CN can do...since they are the ones probably behind the 500 car minimum that drove the elevator to truck :|

So the FB spur is gone now, man that's sad. I remember the days of grain hoppers sitting on the interchange track daily by Johnson's Workbench, waiting for the GTW to switch 'em. At least CS is making some $ storing cars, above & beyond the dinner train!

Drove by the coil cars on M-50 today. Noticed that the RR signs have a blue sign under them that say something like "to report an incident on the Charlotte and Eaton Trail call......." I was going about 40 MPH as I had a car on my backside so not exactly sure. I could have sworn it said TRAIL and not RAIL. Does anyone have a pic of the RR signs on M-50?

In the interest of helping the RR maintain security I have pulled down the specific reports and removed the photographs from this web site.
