names
So whats the deal with me and Don Simon being the only ones who use their real names for their id here? I figure either 1. everyone else is paranoid, 2. there is some legitimate identity protection reasoning behind it, 3. making up names is cool and we're NERDS or all of the above?

Re: names
One of my first jobs out of college was at a small company with only 11 people. I was the second "Dave" to hire in. My last name begins with O. The office had an intercom system, and the receptionist would page me as "O" Dave in order to differentiate me from the other "D" Dave. The name "ODave" kinda stuck, and after a while that's what everyone started calling me

I WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE INFO IN THE VIEWING PROFILE OF MANY MEMBERS.

NOTHING IS MANDATORY BUT A LITTLE INFO CAN BRING ABOUT INTERESTING CONVERSATIONS.
AS FOR Y@---I TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THAT ONE [THE NAME ONLY ]

Re: names
When I did a google search of my name, to much train information came up. I've lost out on 2 job opportunities with railroads for this reason. Also I dont like people coming up to me in public and know a lot about myself.

Re: names
Exactly what SMRGUY said. Although I have not lost opportunities, I have a lot more to lose than opportunities. I don't need people that don't know me trying to get me in trouble with my employer -- although I do watch what I post in the first place. Thankfully when I google my name, and even my screen name here, I find nothing about me, atleast on the first page. It is kind of scary how publicized you can get on the internet. I choose to hide behind my alias until I meet people or atleast get to know them real well on here. My screen name is just an appreviation of my last name...

Re: names
It is strongly advised not to use your name on boards like this. I should change mine and will get around to it one of these days.

Good luck "googling" me and getting the right info!
I'm an artist! http://www.michaelharding.co.uk/
I'm a country star! http://www.michaelharding.org/fr_index.cfm
I play a general on TV! http://www.tv.com/michael-harding/perso ... mmary.html
I'm in the Coast Guard! http://unitpages.military.com/unitpages ... ?id=710229
I'm in the NHL! http://people.famouswhy.com/michael_harding/
I even have a park named after me! http://oregon.hometownlocator.com/maps/ ... 20park.cfm
I'm also a Doctor, Lawyer, Consultant, CEO, Accountant (wait - that's really me!) and various others...
Even on the professional networking site "Linkedin" there are 135 of me and only one is the "right one".
I can certainly understand the people who protect their identity more - particularly the ones who are "in the industry". I always have in my mind that anything I type/post/upload onto the internet could be seen by anyone and last forever so if I don't want it out there I don't put it out there...
