Camera Ideas
Looking to get a new Canon camera soon with in the next two months or so, what do you guys suggest? looking to get a Rebel or higher. The main thing im looking for is something that wont put a red halo around the headlights in low light times. My current camera does that with most night shots with lights pointing at the camera and ruins the shot.

Re: Camera Ideas
I use the Rebel XSi and love it. Haven't noticed any red halos during night shots granted I haven't taken that many since I got it.

Re: Camera Ideas
Well that all depends upon how much you want to spend on a body and what your budget is for lenses.

Re: Camera Ideas
Steven, are you interested in selling your old camera if/when you get a new one?

Ok, a dollar amount will help us greatly when it comes to making suggestions.

well i know that just want ideas no matter what the price knowing what i have done with a point and shoot.
Re: Camera Ideas
I upgraded from a Canon XTi (10 MP) to a new Canon T1i (15 MP) body last year and it's a HUGE difference over my old XTi. Body only at B&H for $650 or with a decent kit lens (EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens ) for $750. Heck of a camera for not too high of a price. Even shoots HD video if you want. Of course you could buy the body + better glass and then it's wide open from there on $$$'s. Or you could get the newer T2i sporting 18MP. Or get a more $$$ body, or a full frame body, or....GLC 392 wrote:well i know that just want ideas no matter what the price knowing what i have done with a point and shoot.
While we're at it - anyone have any experience with this lens?
Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens $ 720.00
That's a heck of a range and if reviews like this are indicative then it might be good for our hobby use despite the f range:

Comments about Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens:
I'm a professional wedding photographer and have used the 24-70L lens for years. I've always needed farther reach on both ends, so I rented the 15-85 and spent a lot of time and a lot of photographs comparing the two lenses. Bottom line; I was so impressed with the 15-85 that I immediately put my 24-70L online to sell and B&H should expect my order shortly. The 15-85 is noticeably sharper and it compares in contrast and bokeh. Pincusion distortion on the 24-70L was quite evident compared to the 15-85. The IS is remarkable! I found that I rarely used f/2.8 on the 24-70L because it was too soft. I used f/5.6 most often, so the 15-85 is perfect"

Re: Camera Ideas
Buy a used Canon 30D or 40D along with a 70-200 f/4L and a 28-105 f/4.5-5.6 (or a Sigma 17-70).
Re: Camera Ideas
I have the Sigma 17-70 and have been pretty happy with it. I use a Canon 70-300 for a longer reach although the 70-200 f/4L certainly has a good reputation (although it costs about twice as much).LSRC wrote:Buy a used Canon 30D or 40D along with a 70-200 f/4L and a 28-105 f/4.5-5.6 (or a Sigma 17-70).

Re: Camera Ideas
I'd probably buy a 100-300 before I'd buy a 70-300...and Gregg is conveniently still has one on the market I believe.

Re: Camera Ideas
I HAD a Sigma 24-70 and loved it. Great lens for what I used it for and the price I got it for. I would also highly recommend the 40D. I had that as well (if you haven't seen my thread about it, got stolen) and had no issues with it, very user friendly.

Re: Camera Ideas
It's a very good camera Steven, I'd keep saving money for some better glass too. It uses SD and SDHC memory so you won't have to go out and buy all new memory cards.
