Q516/Q517 back?
Q516/Q517 back?
Aaron texted me awhile ago and said he was chasing a Q517 down the Toledo Sub. Said he heard them calling themselves Q517 very clearly. CSXT 8600 and CSXT 8320 up front. I hadn't heard anything about Q516 or Q517 returning, so what does anyone else know about this?

Well, John Lyon said they might be back but he wasn't sure. So at least someone else was aware of it before I was. I haven't seen them yet though.

'Twas a good sized train, too. 5800 feet by the Columbus Grove DD, and 396 axles. Picture up soon!
Edit: Here's a shot of the train south of Columbus Grove:

Great job on that! They look a lot better in your shot than when I saw that pair of engines chuggin' north on Q322 at Vickers during a lunch last week! Must have come back down and then gone out on what you caught...

Beautiful shot -- favorited on my RP account. Nice too to see two veterans in YN1 and YN2 not looking like monsters.

Michael, I was in Northwood Thursday and I envy you that you can do lunches at Vickers. If all goes well, I'll be working very near Vickers as I'm looking for a job change. I was at an interview Thursday and afterwards checked everything out, including Vickers and drove by Stanley Tower. I tried to also familiarize myself with all the connections all over the place. I did find the Pennsy as well, looked pretty bad!MDH wrote:Great job on that! Leader, 8600, gave up the ghost with a hot engine alarm as the train entered Lima. Not sure how they fared leaving Lima.
Not quite a return of both trains, there has not been a Q516. Yesterday appears to have been the first run:
Q517 departed Toledo/Stanley at 15:00 and went via Fostoria. Made it to Lima by 18:50 and was in Cincy by 03:50
There is a Q517-26 profiled for today (Monday)

Re: Q516/Q517 back?
I had the radio on at home last night, heard talk of a Q517, and did a double take. It's been years. That was one of the hot southbound trains on the railroad back when I started fanning in the late 80's, along with R513 and R371.

Is the northbound with the Ford truck frames still Q512?
Re: Q516/Q517 back?
No Q516. Q517 is a Sunday through Wednesday train.

Saw 517 in Deshler today.11,000 tons of train.Looked just like the CN 383 to Toledo.Had coiled wire, big cut of ignots, and alot of loaded ACFX hoppers

That's a typical Q517 from memory.CharlieX90 wrote:Saw 517 in Deshler today.11,000 tons of train.Looked just like the CN 383 to Toledo.Had coiled wire, big cut of ignots, and alot of loaded ACFX hoppers

Also of memory is CSX's propensity to under power the train. Today's Q517 struggled into Lima at 25 mph in Run 8. Crew mentioned that the climb up Botkins Hill would not be pretty if additional power was not added to the train.

Re: Q516/Q517 back?
Oh yes, I remember that as well. I've seen it several times with one unit and 8,000 plus feet of train. I even recall seeing it once with an SD40-2/GP38-2 combo and 11,500 (somewhere in that area) feet behind. Pretty wild.CG Tower wrote:Also of memory is CSX's propensity to under power the train.
