Just Can't Win

Unread post by ConrailForever »

Hey everyone, just looking to see if there's any way I can get this shot to work for RP. After a couple attempts, I'm still not having any luck, so any ideas are greatly appreciated.

It is a little tight but what is really killing it is the train is all at the top and you have nothing below. Put more sky in it and less trackage. Your gona need to cut it above the frog in the switch.

Funny, I was trying to keep the frog in the frame :P But I see what you're saying, and I'll give it another shot tomorrow.

Too much on the bottom, not enough on the top, not enough on the right. Unfortunately the switch is going to have to come out and if you cropped any of the sky out it's going to have to be put back in.

Success!

It still feels like a tight crop on the sides to me, but at least it worked... My original crop-job was what worked best for me, and I guess that's what matters. :D

What gets me is the quality of the screaners lately. It seams as its gone down hill a lot. A photo like that would have gotten dinged for bad crop even that way, because it violated the rule of thirds, as it is right dead center of the photo. Now it seams as that is the only way they want it. sure it was hard, but at least it was not another run of the mill, shot.
