Bay City Woman Injured After Being Struck By Train
BAY COUNTY, Mich. -- HAMPTON TWP. — A 19-year-old female from Hampton Township had her left foot run over by a train this morning, according to police.
The teenager was sitting on train tracks in Bay County's Hampton Township — between Nebobish and Center — at about 3 a.m., as a train was coming down the tracks, according to Hampton Township Police Chief Gerald Runde.
Runde said the train's operator saw the teenager, blew the train's whistle, and applied the breaks, but not in time to stop before running over the woman's left foot.
Earlier reports were unclear if the train actually hit the teenager or if she injured her foot while trying to move from the train tracks.
The teenager was taken to Bay Regional Medical Center, according to Runde. At this time, the injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
It is unclear why the young woman was on the train tracks, according to officials.
Runde said the Hampton Township Police Department did not test the teenager to find out if alcohol was a factor in the accident

how did she manage to get her foot run over and not get hit by the overhang of the train
Re: Bay City Woman Injured After Being Struck By Train
I don't understand how her foot wasn't severed off.

Its from the Bay City Times, which means they only included about 1/4 of the actual facts into their story.
They didn't even include the name of the railroad.

Re: Bay City Woman Injured After Being Struck By Train
It always bugs me when i hear about trains hiting people-cars in the news they dont even mention the railroad involved. But if it was between Nebobish and center at 3 am it was probably an sbs coal train. Thats a nice straight section of track though with fair warning of a train coming and couldnt have been doing more than 10 mph. So how could she not have seen this train coming soon enough to save her foot?!?

Something doesn't add up here...teenager sitting on tracks at 3 am + can't get out of the way of a slow moving train, even with the horn blaring = not testing for alcohol consumption?

Sounds like her attempt to obtain a Darwin award failed...
Re: Bay City Woman Injured After Being Struck By Train
If they are questioning whether she injured her foot another way, the injury must not be THAT bad. Or perhaps she just got bumped as she was trying to roll away or something. Sounds like more of a non-story than anything.R.E.A.P.E.R. wrote: Earlier reports were unclear if the train actually hit the teenager or if she injured her foot while trying to move from the train tracks.
