I find it interesting that they accept a picture like this. Common power, poor lighting, cloudy, dull snow, etc. Sure, it's snowing, but there's nothing exciting about this image that makes it stand out:

And yet another....common power, poor lighting, UNSHARP, etc...

http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=171552
So let me get this straight...they'll accept common power, cloudy day, unsharp....AS LONG AS IT'S SNOWING???

Another, cloudy, common power, unsharp...

I think the last one is quite creative.

The shot of the Conrail train in Chesterton isn't that bad, but those BNSF shots from Minnesota aren't so great. It shows that the screeners are inconsistent. My opinion is that the shot at the lake focuses too much away from the train itself, but thats just my two cents.

I think they took this one because there's a few ounces of snow on the locoJ T wrote:Unbelievable:

For those other snow shots, I think they don't get a lot with snow, so anything with snow falling has a much better chance...usually won't look the most sharp with the white stuff flying.
For the Conrail shot, anything that's posted from the 1990's on back will get accepted more often as it's now a "historical" photo.
Last photo was somewhat creative, but the composition of the photo was horrible in my opinion. Locos smack dab in the center...

I will agree with the historical stuff getting in, kind of hard to go back. But give me a poorly composed photo (I dont think it is that bad, the L shape to the tree to me brings your attention in). over one that is composed, but ant lit worth a crap.

Fair enough.railroadfan wrote: For the Conrail shot, anything that's posted from the 1990's on back will get accepted more often as it's now a "historical" photo.
I agree with the creative INTENT of the photo, which I think was good, but the composition is weak.railroadfan wrote: Last photo was somewhat creative, but the composition of the photo was horrible in my opinion. Locos smack dab in the center...
My point of posting those photos was to show the obvious inconsistencies of the screeners.
Can you post links to your pictures that were accepted? You seem surprised that they were, and I'd like to see why you feel that way.chicago4900 wrote:The previous post of the snow shot was mine, I totally forgot to log in to the site.

What with all of the complaints about rp.net, I got to thinking, could the screener inconsistency be the result of some computer issue on the screener's end? Could a bad monitor, bad video drivers, bad software, or some other non-terminal computer issue be causing perfectly good photos to display poorly on the screen of one of the screeners?
Reason why I ask is that I've noticed a difference in how some photos display on the screen of my laptop and various computers in the computer labs at school. I guess it could also be a general dislike of Michigan-area photographs or a general glut of photos from the area as well...

Well it's good to see that SOMEONE there finally relaxed a bit and accepted some good cloudy day shots. Maybe he(she?) is the same who has accepted the others.
This photo stands out the most to me:

The colors are excellent and I really like that perspective. On a hill or bridge when you took that?
I like this one a lot, too:

(I tried the thumbnail linking feature with these but couldn't get it to work)

My RPElite status has no bearing on my photos being accepted. If it does, I am getting ripped off! I have always accepted solicited and unsolicited criticism. Yet when someone complains that my work was accepted at RP.net or incorrectly states the common power is "smack dab in the center", this is not constructive.J T wrote:

If it is so detrimental, why not petition RP.net to remove photos you disagree with... or become screeners?

I have tried to petition photos that look the same as ones of mine that has been rejected, and all they say is its there board. I have also apealed on the basis of you have photos in you space that are as badly (whatever) and mine and the response is nothing other than restating what they rejected you photo for. As far as screaners, I dont believe they are looking for any. There have been photos I have resubmited up to six times, each one had somthing more wrong with it. In the end, after the sixth time all I got was Wrong Angle. Basicly if they like you photo your in if not then your not.
